The world of tiki mugs and Polynesian pop art lost a titan. Danny "Tiki Diablo" was a hard working and rare talent, and it a joy to listen to him. He was extremely generous of his time with his fans; making sure each got the time to make a memory. Our hearts go out to his nearest and dearest.
Some notes I took from his lecture on respectful design:
#1 Don't Do Stupid S**t
•You don't have to do every customer request, no sunglasses please
•No matter what you make there is a way to add your own twist without making a mockery of something.
•There are elements that take something from fun to offensive, and I understand that not everyone is offended and thats ok because it might not be for you to be offended by it
•We all want to have fun but try and design something that will look good and still be relevant in 50 years from. now, people spend a lot of money on your art. Respect your customers.
