Today, June 6th, marks the 82nd anniversary of the Allied landings on Normandy beaches, kicking off Europe's liberation. We honor the sacrifice and bravery of those troops today.

Early voting for the primary runoff starts tomorrow, Saturday, June 6th, in Cherokee and Cobb Counties, with Election Day set for June 16th. Even if you voted in the May 19th primary, you need to vote again! The races on the ballot are: U.S. Senate, Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, State School Superintendent, and Public Service Commissioner District 5. Make a plan to go vote!

Today, we remember and honor those who gave their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms we cherish.

I received a form email message from a constituent, noting their support for raising taxes on the "wealthy", even though IRS data clearly shows that the top 1% of income earners pay nearly 40% of all Federal income taxes.

One sentence in the email makes the assertion "[blue states] have shown that states can ask the wealthy to contribute more and use that revenue to fund public priorities."

My response: When taxes are collected by government force, that’s not “asking” the wealthy.
