What an incredible day we had in Newton County this past Saturday!
More than 200 community members joined Heart of Newton and the Georgia Council for Recovery at Georgia Piedmont Technical College Newton Conference Center in Covington for A Symposium on Recovery, a day filled with connection, collaboration, and hope.
Attendees engaged in meaningful conversations about youth recovery resources, family supports, reentry services, recovery-friendly activities, and reducing stigma. They also connected with local providers and heard powerful stories from individuals representing multiple pathways of Recovery Bartow Inc.
The energy and enthusiasm throughout the day were a powerful reminder that recovery thrives when communities come together. Thank you to Heart of Newton, our speakers, panelists, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this event such a success. We are especially grateful to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities for its continued support in making events like this possible.
A special thank you to Mayor Michael Patterson of Porterdale for joining us and sharing remarks; to GC4R's Laurisa Barthen for delivering an inspiring keynote address; and to GC4R's Brian Kite for facilitating meaningful community conversations throughout the day.
We are also grateful to our recovery pathways panelists Michael Sherlock, Jessica Shaw, Jay Hobbs, Savannah Bryant, and Lindsey Glenn as well as Jordan Pittman of Lighthouse Recovery, Rod Myers of Georgia 911 Good Samaritan Law, Tabbetha Daniels, Board Member of Heart of Newton, Courtney Wright of Walton Empowers Addiction Recovery Support Center, and Haley Sherlock of Heart of Newton for sharing their expertise, experiences, and commitment to strengthening recovery in our communities.
We're excited to continue supporting Heart of Newton as they work toward establishing a strong Recovery Community Organization and expanding recovery support services in Covington and throughout Newton County.
