This was not a vacation by any standards but certainly worth every moment. I had the chance to shadow a Kurdish veterinarian from the diesel filled, brick and mortar streets of densely populated cities, to isolated IPD shepherd encampments tucked into the rocky escarpments of northern Kurdistan near the Turkish border. It was exhausting mentally, physically and certainly emotionally to see much needed medical care arrive for anything from an injured goat to a wild Persian Leopard. The story continues as we work to form an Iraqi / US / Kurdish partnership to find this critically endangered cat a new home at a sanctuary in the US. More to come.
Hi all - sorry for the silence, I've been working hard settling in with my new friends at CBS Atlanta News. I'll keep the info coming from now on...so much more on the way from here including of course the wildlife trafficking work. For now everyone in the Deep (Freeze) South, please prep ahead for some dangerously cold freezing rain and frigid temps. People, PETS (including livestock), Plants and Plumbing, then add PREPARE, don't panic :).
