The Deep South was dealt quite a blow from the remnants of tropical storm Arthur. Historic flooding, tornadoes, and in some places feet of rain. The Weather Channel followed the storm reporting live from Houston, TX, Lake Charles, LA, Hattiesburg, MS, Wiggins, MS and Perkinston, MS. We introduced you to people who were directly impacted by the storms, and whose lives are forever changed. The stories after the storms are often forgotten, which is why we stay to tell them. On to the next…
One day after more than 14 inches of rain triggered catastrophic flooding in Perkinston, Mississippi, the water is finally beginning to slowly recede along Red Creek.
At Perk Beach RV Park, high-water marks remain visible on posts throughout the property. Several RVs are still surrounded by standing water, a reminder of just how quickly this flooding unfolded. Residents here were forced to escape by boat, swim to safety, and in some cases take refuge in trees while waiting for rescue.
The danger may be easing, but the recovery is just beginning.

Sometimes the story takes you places you never expected to stand. Today, it was a flooded railroad in Mississippi, where the power of moving water is on full display. We’re live on The Weather Channel as the Deep South deals catastrophic flooding.
🚨 FLOODING EMERGENCY IN SOUTH MISSISSIPPI 🚨
Perkinston is being overwhelmed by catastrophic flash flooding as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur continue to unload torrential rain across the region. Homes are inundated, residents are trapped, and first responders are carrying out water rescues, in some cases cutting through rooftops to reach people stranded by rapidly rising water.
The danger is far from over. An additional 4–7 inches of rain could fall before midnight, worsening an already life-threatening situation.
If you’re in flooded areas:
⚠️ Move to higher ground immediately
⚠️ Never drive through flooded roads
⚠️ Heed all evacuation and emergency instructions
⚠️ Stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary
We’re live on The Weather Channel tracking the flooding, ongoing rescues, and the latest forecast as Arthur’s remnants continue to impact the Deep South.
UPDATE at 11AM Wednesday: On the road eastbound on I-10 toward Mississippi as Tropical Storm Arthur, the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, moves inland across the Gulf Coast. (I’m not driving, if you’re wondering)
According to the National Hurricane Center, Arthur is bringing heavy rain, flooding concerns, gusty winds, isolated tornadoes, and dangerous coastal conditions from Louisiana into Mississippi and parts of the Deep South.
We’ll be live from Mississippi with continuing coverage on The Weather Channel.
A reminder that hurricane season runs every year from June 1 through November 30. Arthur is the first name on the list, and likely not the last.
Stay with The Weather Channel all season long.

I looked up and the sun, clouds and ice crystals were showing off ☀️
It’s called a 22-degree halo, formed when sunlight passes through tiny ice crystals high in the atmosphere. These crystals bend the light, creating a circular halo.
Halos are most common with thin cirrus clouds and can signal increasing moisture ahead of a weather system.
Have you ever spotted a solar halo?

🚩 Dangerous rip currents are hammering much of Florida’s coastline right now, from Pensacola Beach to the Atlantic Coast. The highest threat zones stretch across the Panhandle and Florida’s east coast, where persistent onshore flow and rough surf are creating life-threatening conditions in the water.
Pensacola Beach remains under a HIGH rip current risk through at least Friday. Even experienced swimmers can quickly get into trouble when exhaustion sets in against these currents.
Florida has already seen dozens of rescues and multiple deaths tied to rip currents during this recent stretch of dangerous surf.
🚩 Know the flags. Stay near lifeguards. And if you’re caught in a rip current don’t fight it. Swim parallel to shore.
We’re LIVE from Pensacola Beach on .

A constant reminder in my home of the sacrifices made by my grandfathers. One of their burial flags, my Pap’s coal mine lantern, and a piece of my Pappy’s woodworking.
Both served during World War II, and I’m forever grateful for what they, and so many others, gave in service to our country.
Today, we remember all who served, and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. 🇺🇸
