Atlanta for Ukraine: humanitarian aid for Ukrainians 03/07/2022

Dear friends and clients!

Having helped many of you to Go To Russia for the past 24 years, it is with a great regret that I must insist that you DO NOT GO TO Russia until it stops the terrible and bloody war against its neighbor Ukraine.

Our staff has Russian and Americans, and our company is owned by a Ukrainian American, and such a mix is normal for most Russian companies in the States. Just like you, we’ve been watching horrific scenes from bombed Ukrainian cities and simply cry from helplessness. We wholeheartedly hope that Putin, a war criminal and a cold-blooded murderer, will get his time at the Hague’s International Criminal Court. And we’re sure we’ll be able to invite you to a new Russia, free of the dictator and oppressor, and a beautiful Ukraine — after it gets rebuilt.

And for now, we’ve set up a project to collect humanitarian aid for war-torn Ukraine. We do it in our American home city of Atlanta, but if you want to help, check out some reputable organizations on the website that you can donate to: www.AtlantaforUkraine.com

Thank you for supporting our fellow Ukrainian brothers and sisters at this most difficult for them time.

With kindest regards,
Alex Khodorkovsky, GTR Travel founder

Go To Russia is US-based corporation, providing travel and visa services since 1998. We have Russians, Ukrainians and Americans in our staff and our company history began at a time when Russia-US relations were on an extraordinary upswing, led by charismatic presidents Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin.

Unfortunately, times have changed, and Russia is now ruled by an autocratic leader, who destroyed all liberal and democratic institutes, free elections, independent justice system, jailed opposition activists and caused the largest brain-drain immigration in the country’s history.

We deplore militaristic policies of the current Russian government toward Ukraine and the annexation of its territories, beginning with the Crimea in 2014 and now with Donetsk/Luhansk region. And we are also extremely worried that Putin will not stop at this, as he clearly mentioned that he considers Ukraine’s government to be illegitimate and a result of a coup.

We believe in Ukraine’s right to self-determination and trust in peaceful solutions to this crisis with the help of the world leaders and good people everywhere.

As for our core business — we invite everyone to visit Russia now more than ever. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring us, but we live in historical times today, and while the borders are still open — come meet Russia’s people, discover what they really are like and see its beautiful sights.

President and CEO

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law in May of 2021, easing restrictions on tourists coming to Russia by allowing them to stay in the country for up to 6 months if they have hotel bookings.

“The law allows the issuance of ordinary tourist visas for up to six months for citizens of all countries, regardless of the ‘principle of reciprocity’ — the existence of a similar policy of these countries in relation to tourists from the Russian Federation,” it states.

Current coronavirus restrictions limit travel to and from Russia to a handful of countries where daily case numbers are deemed safe.

Previously, foreigners could obtain a tourist visa for up to one month, or up to six months on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.

Dear friends, we'll follow here with an update on travel to Russia, affected by the Coronavirus epidemic. • Air travel to most European destinations is now limited to flights from/into Sheremetyevo Moscow airport and only between most European capital cities.

Russian coronavirus-related FAQ

- If my flight to Moscow originates in the USA, but I transit (change planes) in one of the 7 countries mentioned for self-isolation, would that mean that I also need to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival?
- Not if you simply changed planes and did not leave the airport/passport control or have a lay-over in that city.

- If I had traveled to one of the quanteened countries recently, what period of time should it have passed for me to arrive to Moscow and not be quaranteened?
- 14 days.

- Is this regulation only enforced on those arriving by airplane?
- No, other means of transportation, too. However, we do not know whether it is enforced at the border (for international train service) or upon arrival into Moscow or if it's enforced at all.

- What can I do, if I am travelling from one of the quaranteened countries, and need to get to Moscow, but do not want to be self-isolated for 14 days?
- You can choose to fly to a different airport, like St.Petersburg, for example. From there, you can take a local flight (1 hour) or take a fast train (4-6 hours) into Moscow. You should not be passing through official checks then, and self-isolation will be up to you.

- Are there any restrictions in Russia internally in connection with the coronavirus outbreak?
- There are no known restrictions in Russia, other than self-isolation for travelers from certain countries. Muscovites are advised not to use public transportation during peak hours to avoid crowds (although that seems to be impossible to follow), wash hands often and wear protective masks.

We will post updates here when they become available.
