I’d heard of but never imagined I’d have the opportunity to see it in person. The story of these tribes is an old one and there are as many myths as there are truths. Suffice to say that these are the community orgs that take care of their neighborhoods when others couldn’t or wouldn’t. The Mardi Gras Indians are well known but simply knowing a few facts about their history didn’t prepare me for the celebration I was welcomed into. Please enjoy these few selects.

Caught this fresh young crew of gents and their new act at The Star Bar the other night. Keep an eye out for them, they’re really going somewhere.

Wednesday, I told a friend and co-worker that it had been “3 or 4 months” since Mom passed. I believed that, too. Because it feels that way.

It’s been 6 weeks.

Grief is weird. I thought I knew it.

I don’t.

And I’m realizing that it’s affected me in ways I wasn’t ready to deal with.

I’m ok, mom. I’ll be fine. I’m Just dropping the occasional piece of priceless china along the way.

6th Season on the Sidelines? Really? This kit gets more refined and useful every year.
