Greg Abel, Warren Buffett’s successor, just led Berkshire’s $8.5 billion acquisition of Taylor Morrison, the nation’s sixth-largest homebuilder. The move signals confidence that the housing market—especially the luxury segment—will rebound, even if the timing remains uncertain.
Taylor Morrison operates in 21 markets across 12 states and will continue under its current leadership. Combined with Berkshire’s existing housing businesses, including Clayton Homes and Shaw Industries, the deal strengthens its position across the homebuilding and home furnishings sectors.

Both Home Depot and Lowe’s say their biggest wins are coming from Pro customers, even as homeowners put major renovation projects on hold due to higher costs, interest rates, and housing market uncertainty.
