Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the enduring pursuit of freedom, justice, and opportunity for all.

At New American Pathways, we recognize that the promise of freedom is strongest when every person has the opportunity to live safely, contribute their talents, and build a future with dignity. The stories of refugees, immigrants, and newcomers remind us that the pursuit of liberty and belonging continues across generations and communities.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we reflect on the progress made, acknowledge the work that remains, and reaffirm our commitment to creating welcoming communities where everyone has the chance to thrive.

For many newly arrived refugees, access to programs like SNAP, Medicaid, and Medicare isn't just assistance—it's a lifeline.

In a new From the Desk update from CEO Paedia Mixon, we discuss how recent federal legislation, including provisions within H.R. 1, could significantly impact refugee families' access to critical social safety net programs. These changes come at a time when many families are still rebuilding their lives after fleeing conflict, persecution, and instability.

At New American Pathways, we're committed to ensuring our newest neighbors have access to basic necessities as they work toward self-sufficiency. That's why we've launched our Food Box Initiative—a direct way for community members to help fill the gap.

You can support refugee families by:
• Donating directly via text at Snapback to 41444
• Packing food boxes with family, friends, coworkers, or faith communities
• Sharing this initiative with your network

Now more than ever, community support matters.

Together, we can ensure refugee families have access to the food and resources they need to thrive.

As the world celebrates the opening of the World Cup, we're reminded of the unique power of soccer to bring people together.

No matter where we come from, what language we speak, or what traditions we carry with us, the game creates connection. On a soccer field, differences become strengths, teamwork crosses cultures, and friendships form beyond borders.

Every day in our after-school and summer programs, we see this firsthand. Young people from diverse backgrounds come together to play, learn, laugh, and build community—one pass, one goal, and one game at a time.

Soccer isn't just a sport. It's a reminder that belonging doesn't require sameness. It grows when people come together, celebrate what makes them unique, and work toward something shared.

As the world watches the tournament unfold, we're celebrating the young people who show us every day what connection, inclusion, and community can look like.

At New American Pathways, we believe strong communities are built when people feel safe, respected, and seen for who they are.

This Pride Month, we recognize and celebrate the diversity that makes our communities stronger and reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces of belonging for all new Americans.

Every person deserves the opportunity to build a life with dignity, hope, and support — exactly as they are.

A backpack may seem like a small thing, but for a child starting a new school year, it can make all the difference.

This summer, New American Pathways is collecting backpacks and school supplies to help refugee and immigrant students begin the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

For many families, back-to-school shopping can create financial stress. Together, we can help ensure students have the tools they need to succeed from day one.

From June 1 through July 27, you can support our Back-to-School Drive by donating supplies or purchasing items from our Amazon Wishlist *link in comments*

Stay tuned for more details, including opportunities to volunteer at our backpack stuffing party later this summer.

Let's help students start the school year strong.

This year, New American Pathways celebrated two milestones: the graduation of 14 emerging leaders from immigrant and refugee communities across Metro Atlanta and five years of Civic Pathways leadership development.

Throughout the program, participants led projects focused on advocacy, community education, systems change, scam awareness, and increasing access to resources. Along the way, many also achieved personal and professional milestones, including promotions, leadership appointments, new business ventures, and professional certifications.

The Civic Pathways Graduation & 5-Year Celebration was a powerful reminder of what happens when leadership, opportunity, and community come together. We are proud of this year's graduates and grateful to the facilitators, volunteers, alumni, sponsors, and community partners who have helped make Civic Pathways a success over the past five years.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. We look forward to seeing the impact you continue to make in your communities and beyond.

Welcome to Good News.

In a world that often focuses on challenges, we want to make space for something else: progress.

Every month, we'll share a few stories that remind us why this work matters. Stories of students reaching goals, families finding stability, individuals building confidence, and communities coming together to support one another.

Each month, we'll share a few stories of hope and progress from across our programs. Join us in celebrating the Good News, big and small.

Above & Beyond: Mustafa Suliman

This month, we're proud to recognize Mustafa Suliman for his outstanding dedication and impact on the Community Education Program.
