Still riding this high, honestly.

Having The Midnight Screening selected for the Smodcastle 37 Hour Film Challenge was already surreal… but getting to experience it with my family? That’s the part that stuck. ❤️

We packed up, headed to Atlantic Highlands, stayed in this beautiful beach house, and just dove in. I went into this challenge ready to push myself harder than I have in a long time, but the real magic was watching my son see his film on the big screen for the first time. That moment? Yeah… that’s the one.

Congrats to the Castle Keeper Ernie and Smodcastle Team for a great festival !!! We might try again.

I’ve told my son about Kevin Smith and the whole Jersey legacy, but what I really wanted him to see was the heart behind it. The way he’s pouring love, and yes money, back into his hometown theater and community. That’s what matters. That’s the real win.

Now… did we take home the legendary Golden Calf?
Nope. 🐄💀

And yeah, my son was a little heartbroken, especially after hearing it was handmade by the castle keeper himself, which honestly makes it sound even cooler and artistic masterpiece. BUT, plot twist, it just made him more fired up to create. And as a parent, I couldn’t ask for more than that.

He’s 16, chasing art in his own way, and I’m ridiculously proud. We’re already talking about coming back one day and maybe, just maybe, bringing home a Moobie or a Smodcastle horror award. Gotta have goals, right?

But here’s the truth I keep reminding him, and myselfYou don’t need the trophy. The real award is what you build, who you build it with, and the people your work might touch along the way.

Also, important update, there WILL be a director’s cut… and yes, we’re absolutely refilming a few scenes because apparently we enjoy chaos. 🎬

And my favorite moment?Kyler goes, “Maybe it’s good we didn’t win… I don’t think I’m ready to be in a boardroom with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.”

Same, kid. Same. 😂

See you again soon, Smodcastle. We’re coming back louder, bloodier, and better.

We are thrilled to submit our short film to the 37 Hour Smodcastle Cinemas Film Festival!

Finding a boombox felt impossible and we thought all hope was lost, until a friend walked into a thrift store that donates its proceeds to animals in need. Fate stepped in and the perfect prop appeared.

Telling the story of a complex character like Alyssa Jones from Chasing Amy in just two minutes was no small feat. We wanted something different from your average 80s romance, blending love lost, ghosts, and the reality that sometimes the boy does not get the girl. Integrating the boombox into the story was a blast, and we couldn’t resist nods to the iconic Say Anything moment, though our story takes its own eerie twist.

Filming at the historic Plaza Theatre in Atlanta, built in 1939, was unforgettable. The ghost rumored to haunt the theatre turned out to be very real cameras shut off, and SSD cards quit working during our first take.

Working with our cast and crew was an absolute joy. Everyone brought their energy, talent, and heart to this overnighter, it was so much fun collaborating and watching the story come alive. This team is a Power house and stay strong through the unexpected and worked an overnighter into the wee hours of the morning. I admire each and everyone of these incredibly talented people. Just having them walk on set and join me to build art was a real honor.

NEED SOME AN ACTOR...
Do you know or are you a male actor that could play someone in their 60s to 80s. Are you in the Atlanta area? Can you remember lines fairly quickly? Can you spare a couple hours Feb 28th? If so I really want to talk to you. We are signing up for a film challenge and I need cast members.

We’ve officially begun preproduction on our next short horror film, and I need to scream a huge THANK YOU into the void to the wickedly talented Jennifer Pearl, Jason Thompson, and Shane Morton. Long-time friends, fearless filmmakers, and absolute maniacs who busted their asses with me yesterday to start conjuring this nightmare into existence. I’m so lucky to make scary little dreams with you.

More on this KILLER little film soon. For now, just know… something wicked is crawling your way.
