“Three Dreamlike Expressions”

On Friday, June 12th, Studio 905 on Juniper will host a series of collections by artists Felix Berroa, Brikena Boci and Ray Vargas.
This exhibition will be more than a simple matter of taste, but rather the collective tastes of three artists from the Dominican Republic, Albania and Cuba. As you peruse the gallery you will see their individual styles that is the result of artists expressing themselves in ways that convey meaning and values within their culture.

Felix Berroa was born in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic and has a degree in Fine Arts from the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo. His worked is exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, Istitute of Cultural and Arts in Puerto Rico, Islip Art Museum and Nassau County Museum of Art in Long Island, NY and the Mariata Cobb Art Museum among others.

Brikena Boci is a working artist living in Atlanta, GA. She was born in Vlore, Albania but moved to the USA in 2003 to pursue a BA of Art from Western Michigan University where she graduated with honors in 2006. She then relocated to Illinois to further her education in art at Northern Illinois University, where she graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts in 2010.

Rey Vargas was born in Havana and graduated from the La Escuela De Bellas Artes San Alejandro in Havana in 1981. From 1981 to 1984, he taught drawing in La Casa De La Cultura while he worked for a cinematography company in Havana as a poster designer. In 1993, he was invited by French government to exhibit his work in Fort-de-France. From there his international journey lead him to Europe, where he lived for four years in Paris. Rey currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

A Recently Discovered Box of Frida Kahlo’s Personal Affects Inspires a Young Mexican Artist The Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907–54) has long been an icon of strength and complexity—one who remains relevant year after year, if the current exhibition at the New York Botanical Garden, “Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life,” is any indication.
