LATERAL RECRUITING ALERT - I spoke with several law firm and in-house recruiters today and everyone I spoke with said they are slowing down hiring or putting it on hold for at least the next two weeks. Two of the in-house recruiters said they were directed to plan on a hiring freeze thru May. Firms are even tapping the breaks on lateral partner recruiting out of uncertainty about portable business in this economy. Hopefully this will be a short lived delay but if you are in the midst of interviewing prepare for the process to take longer than expected.

If you have to leave your position after only being there a short amount of time, we're sure you have your reasons. However, you should look for ways to leave gracefully, as leaving after only a few months will likely put your employer in a tough position. Always tread lightly and be as polite as possible.
