Arte Congo… BPL update

Familia,

I am pleased to report that the screening of our documentary "Arte Congo… artists journey on the congo coast of panama" at the Brooklyn Public Library Main Branch at Grand Army Plaza, was a success. We owe a special thanks to Commissioner of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Laurie Cumbo who assisted us in securing the venue and gave opening remarks. Laurie is a former student of mine and a Spelman alumna.

I also want to thank the Panama Day Parade committee for listing "Arte Congo…" on their lists of events. Finally, I wish to thank my friend and colleague Dr. Leticia Thomas for participating in a post-film conversation with me on the theme, "Language, Intoxication, Duplicity, and Buffoonery as Subterfuge in Congo History & Culture." Our conversation revealed historic reasons for congo behavior, dress and language that led to a very engaging question and answer session that followed.

Finally, we are looking for a Marketing and Distribution company to assist us in getting the film to a larger audience.

familia,
