Bottle refusal comes with A LOT of advice—and unfortunately, a lot of it isn’t very helpful. So let’s talk about what’s actually true:

1️⃣ “If they’re hungry enough, they’ll take it.”
Hunger doesn’t teach a baby a new feeding skill. In fact, waiting until a baby is extremely hungry can make them more frustrated and less able to figure out the bottle. We want to practice when baby is calm and regulated.

2️⃣ “They know if they refuse, you’ll eventually give in and nurse them.”
Your baby isn’t playing the long game here. They don’t have the ability to reason, “If I hold out long enough, Mom will nurse me.” Bottle refusal is communication—not manipulation.

3️⃣ “Mom can’t be the one to give the bottle.”
You do not need to leave the house. Or hide upstairs. Or apparently leave the country. 😂 Many breastfed babies can absolutely learn to take a bottle from the breastfeeding parent. In fact, sometimes Mom is the person they feel safest learning a new skill with.

4️⃣ “I did something wrong.”
Nope. You didn’t cause this by breastfeeding too much, waiting too long, not offering enough bottles, using the wrong bottle, or creating a “bad habit.” Bottle refusal is common, and there are lots of reasons it can happen.

The goal isn’t to outsmart or out-stubborn your baby. It’s to figure out why the bottle isn’t working for them and help them develop the skills they need to feed comfortably and confidently.

And yes—bottle refusal is something we help families with all the time. 💜

So your baby needs formula or your expressed milk in the hospital and they hand you one of these ni***es… 🍼

They say slow flow but they are in fact extremely fast for a newborn baby.

If your baby is chugging their bottle using one of these ni***es it’s most likely because they are just tying to keep up and not choke as the milk is coming at them.

So what’s your other options:
- Syringe feed
- Finger feed with a syringe or 5 French feeding tube
- Cup or spoon feed
- Use the ni**le but lay your baby on their side so you can pace the flow and make sure you are sticking with appropriate volumes of milk

➡️ Who has used one of these ni***es in the hospital and how did it go?

So when does this parenting thing get easier? Asking for a friend. 😬😂

Nursing vs pumping mechanics! One of these things is not like the other 🎶

When baby is nursing we want ar**la + ni**le in their mouth. They are using a combo of compression and vacuum to remove the milk.

Your pump is different.

The majority of pumps are using just suction (vacuum to remove milk). So we only want your ni**le in that fl**ge tunnel.
