Sunshine on a Ranney Day
Sunshine on a Ranney Day is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Roswell, GA. We offer an expertise and trust to provide home modifications at no cost to the family.
We build accessible bathrooms, dream bedrooms, in-home therapy rooms and wheelchair ramps/lifts. In 2012, Sunshine on a Ranney Day performed their first makeover for an 11 year old boy who always wanted a military bunker bedroom. This special child was Mathew Majka who was battling a brain tumor. From that point on, the husband and wife duo, Peter and Holly Ranney, realized this mission was bigger than they imagined. Holly is a graduate of High Point University with a degree in Interior Design and Home Furnishings Merchandising. She spent 12 years as a buyer for Rooms To Go Kids. She traveled extensively around the world working on product development and developed strong relationships in the furniture industry. Peter is a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Accounting. He grew up in the building industry and worked several summers with his Dad in the family business doing construction. At that time he thought he wanted to get out of construction and pursue a career in accounting. Little did he know that he would end up back in construction. Now he is a licensed general contractor and heads up all the construction projects for Sunshine on a Ranney Day. We are often asked why we started the charity. There was no tragedy or special child that triggered us. It has been a lifetime of experiences and inspiration from a sermon that has guided us on this path. Axel lives with cerebral palsy dystonia, a movement disorder that causes painful, involuntary muscle contractions. This condition affects his movement and touches every part of his daily life. He has overcome more challenges than most kids his age, including undergoing major hip surgery and receiving a pain management pump to help him feel better.
Even through all this, he keeps his spirit strong.
His parents are true heroes. They work opposite shifts in the housekeeping department at different hospitals and arrange their lives so Axel never stays alone. When he comes home from school, someone who loves him always welcomes him. Their dedication stands out, but love alone cannot make their home accessible.
Since his bedroom and bathroom are not wheelchair-accessible, Axel cannot move around his home independently. He sleeps in his parents' room, separated from his twin brother, Angelo, and misses out on the simple, everyday moments that brothers should share.
We are so excited that, thank you to the incredible donors at our Evening of Sunshine Gala, that we will be giving Axel and his brother a room of their own AND an accessible bathroom.
This design was an out-of-the-box idea and we can’t wait to see it come to life!
And that you did!! We still can’t get over how incredible of an evening our Evening of Sunshine Gala was! Because of you, we were able to raise $450k for our Sunshine families!

For more than 50 years, the Children’s Development Academy (CDA) has been helping children build a strong educational foundation and break the cycle of generational poverty.
Serving more than 200 children each year, CDA provides tuition-assisted early education while supporting working families in the community.
As part of CDA’s Learn. Play. Serve. campaign, Sunshine on a Ranney Day helped transform their building with a major renovation…including a brand-new toddler classroom that doubled their toddler capacity, fully renovated bathrooms, a new ADA-accessible bathroom, a remodeled boardroom, and a new community room for trainings, family programs, and community events.

At just three years old, Isla was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor, the most common form of childhood kidney cancer. She bravely faced chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to remove the cancerous tumor from her kidney.
Today, Isla is six years old, in remission, and full of joy and energy.
We were honored to partner with Make-A-Wish Georgia to help bring a little more joy to Isla’s journey. Her makeover created a space designed just for her…a place to rest, play, dream, and simply enjoy being a kid. ✨
Isla we hope you enjoy your Barbie play room for years and years to come!

Sunshine just visited the amazing Lionheart school to take a tour! The school’s mission is to walk along side children who need more than a traditional classroom can offer- meeting them with an education shaped to their developmental stage, therapeutic support and strategies built around who they are as individuals.

Meet Jackson 💛
Jackson is a bright, energetic, and curious child living with SYNGAP1-related disorder, Level 3 autism, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. His conditions bring significant developmental delays, limited verbal communication, and frequent seizures.
Because Jackson is always on the move and has little sense of danger, safety is essential. His new bedroom will be designed specifically around his needs…with reinforced doors, secured windows, padded surfaces, a safe sleep space, and sensory features that allow him to explore and play safely.
This renovation will be more than a bedroom. It will be a safe, supportive space where Jackson can grow, play, rest, and build independence…and where his family can have greater peace of mind.
