The Unlikely Upland Hunter: Bird Dogs, Bobwhites, and Finding Your Way Into the Sporting Life 05/29/2026

I wrote the book I wish someone had handed me. When I came to bird hunting, I was a first-generation hunter from Atlanta with no map, no mentor, and no idea where to start. I bought the wrong gear, trained my first dog half-wrong, and walked past more birds than I ever flushed. I felt like an impostor in a world that, in a thousand quiet ways, told me I didn't belong. And then I figured it out — one season, one mistake, one good dog at a time. The Unlikely Upland Hunter is everything I learned the hard way, written for the person standing at the edge of the field, looking in. Shotguns, bird dogs, where to legally hunt when you don't own land, how to read the country, how to make the shot, and the deep tradition underneath it all — written start-from-zero, with no assumed knowledge and no gatekeeping. The cover is my own painting. The story is real.

Grab it now at the link below — and if you know someone who's always wanted to get into this life, this is the thing to put in their hands.

The Unlikely Upland Hunter: Bird Dogs, Bobwhites, and Finding Your Way Into the Sporting Life You've felt the pull. You just never had anyone to take you.Maybe you grew up in a city. Maybe nobody in your family hunted birds. Maybe you've watched a pointing dog lock up on a covey and felt something stir that you couldn't quite name — and assumed that world wasn't meant for someone like you....

AI can’t replace a good bird dog, period! The dogs are a huge part of the human experience, particularly MY human experience and the hunting experience for folks we guide. I think we need to hold on to those things that tether us to this planet. is crafted for the ones who still believe the best days start with cold boots, a wagging tail, and a dog that knows the field better than any algorithm ever could.

Thank you so much for honoring me with this beautiful award! Renee and everyone who found it in their hearts to nominate me, I’m ever so grateful! Getting folks introduced to the outdoor community has been work that allows me to connect with folks through all the avenues of my passions, and I’d have never imagined that this would be a part of my journey.

Thank yall!

Hunter education today and tomorrow with ! I’m glad to be back in the educational seat once again and in addition to showcasing double guns and talking bird dogs, I want always leave folks with verbal wisdom and literary knowledge during my workshops. I’ll be plugging Auntie book “Nature Swagger”, .1967 book “Field Guide to Raising Hell”, and book, “Closed Seasons: The Transformation of Hunting in the Modern South.” All of these books I’ve contributed to, but more importantly, I think they are books that illustrate the sporting experience through history and true unique perspectives. So check them out when yall can!
