Devin for Atlanta
This is why I am running for Atlanta City Council - Citywide. Now, I am embarking on a new journey: running for the Atlanta City Council - Citywide.
In the heart of Atlanta beats the pulse of resilience, creativity, innovation, and community, and I am honored to stand as a beacon of hope and progress for its people. My journey, rooted in my personal and professional experiences surviving youth homelessness and later becoming an effective policy advocate and civil rights leader has shaped my vision for the future—a future where every Atlantan h

Last night, I called Nicole Evans Jones () and Eshe Collins () to congratulate them on advancing to the run-off for Atlanta City Council, Post 3. While our campaign has come to an end, I am incredibly grateful for the 23,000 people across this city who cast their votes for bold, progressive change.
I want to THANK all of my supporters from the bottom of my heart. I’m not disappointed for myself—I’m disappointed for all of you who believed in this movement and the opportunity to shift Atlanta in a more progressive direction. But make no mistake: the work doesn’t stop here.
This election—both in my race and in the presidential—has made one thing clear: we must EDUCATE our people.
That’s why I’m launching the Atlanta Freedom School, a space for political education to empower our communities for greater self determination and more understanding of policy, the media, and the facts about the decision politicians make behind the noise and talking points.
Our people perish for lack of knowledge, and 2024 has shown just how much work we need to do to prepare our city for the future we all deserve.
To my supporters, thank you for standing by me. To my fellow progressive champion , congratulations on becoming the first socialist elected to the Georgia State House!
A special thanks to the amazing organizations who endorsed and fought alongside us: , , , , , , , , .wusr, , and countless others. Your support fuels the fight for justice, and our work together will continue.
This isn’t the end—it’s a new chapter. We’ll keep organizing, educating, and building. Together, we’ll keep pushing for an Atlanta that works for everyone. 💪🏿✊🏿

Raising down-ballot races: Vote Barrington-Ward for Atlanta City Council
By The Editorial Board of The Emory Wheel.
"The Editorial Board summarized each of the candidates’ views below and found that Devin Barrington-Ward — a local leader and activist — is the best choice to be our next city councilor."
"Barrington-Ward is a lifelong resident of Atlanta and a committed advocate.
He has served the Atlanta community as a Movement for Black Lives organizer and was a member of the Taskforce to Reimagine Public Safety and Incarceration under former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms.
Barrington-Ward’s commitment to improving the lives of Atlantans is grounded in personal experience: He experienced homelessness during his youth and intimately understands low-income citizens’ needs for governmental support and the feeling of not having it delivered.
His personal experience and dedication to his community are bolstered by strong policy proposals and a progressive platform. Barrington-Ward supports crucial reforms to zoning codes to create new affordable housing that meets the needs of Atlanta residents."
Raising down-ballot races: Vote Barrington-Ward for Atlanta City Council The Emory Wheel is the only independent, student-run newspaper of Emory University, since 1919.

🌟 Ancestors watching, I know they’re watching!
Yesterday, I visited the resting place of Mayor Maynard Jackson, Atlanta’s first Black mayor. His legacy was about progress, making way for the Black middle class by mandating that minorities receive 30% of city contracts.
This race for Atlanta City Council (Post 3 At-Large), is about reigniting that vision — using city government as a tool for real change for Atlanta’s poor and working-class communities.
Today, our city’s leadership has strayed. Decisions like potentially defunding Policing Alternatives & Diversion Initiative, allowing developers who got billions of dollars in tax breaks to skip out on building affordable housing, and building Cop City don’t reflect the values or the needs of Atlanta’s people. Mayor Maynard Jackson once called out an Atlanta City Council filled with “scared negroes.”
Decades later, I fear we’re still battling that same fear with back room deals, secret procurement, corruption, and councilmembers afraid to push back on the Mayor of Atlanta when he is wrong!
But I am unafraid. My campaign is rooted in the courage of our ancestors and the strength of Atlanta’s people. Together, we’re pushing forward to reclaim the City of Atlanta as a place of courage, justice, equity, and true progress! ✊🏾
