Atlanta Roller Derby eyes Decatur home, possible new facility Atlanta Roller Derby is in the process of moving its matches to a popular skate rink in DeKalb County, and possibly having a facility built nearby.

Our global theme COMPETENCIA challenged us. This beautiful Spanish term translates to both competence and competition.

In creative circles, we often shy away from the word “competition.” We reject the old winner-loser, zero-sum calculus because we know that one person’s success doesn’t equal another’s failure. So, how do we reconcile the fiery spirit of competition with the collaborative heart of creativity?

Atlanta Roller Derby 🛼 brings this theme to life, and we are partnering with THIS squad that embodies the absolute intersection of sport, art, and community.

ATL Roller Derby is a masterclass in both definitions of competencia. It requires immense technical competence—athleticism, strategy, and split-second decision-making on eight wheels. It is also fiercely competitive. But it doesn’t exist without a profound, underlying collaborative spirit. As a skater-owned and operated subculture, it’s built on mutual respect, creative self-expression, and intense teamwork.

So come on out to hear our guest speakers share their experiences on the Roller Derby Team and what it means to embrace COMPETENCIA!!!
