Happy pride month
Yes Ciara was absolutely done wrong on Summer House…but as a Black woman from the South, I think there are certain social dynamics you learn very early. This isn’t me blaming the victim…it’s me saying discernment matters. Everybody does not deserve the same level of trust, grace, or benefit of the doubt…especially when people keep showing you exactly who they are. Watching her continuously extend understanding to people playing in her face was honestly hard to watch.

I’ve spent so much of my life overthinking… stressing… trying to control every possible outcome because I was scared things would fall apart. But lately I’ve realized something that changed my entire mindset… I have ALWAYS figured it out. Every hard season… every setback… every moment I thought would break me somehow didn’t. And once you truly realize you will always be okay… you stop operating from fear and start operating from possibility. That mindset alone opens doors you were too scared to walk through before.
Black voters have some of the strongest political influence in America but too often it feels like our loyalty to the Democratic Party is expected instead of earned. This conversation is about Black political power, Black economic power, and why Black communities should be leveraging both when it comes to policy, elections, and accountability. Every other voting bloc negotiates for their interests… why shouldn’t we? The Democratic Party cannot continue to rely on Black voters every election cycle without delivering tangible results for Black Americans. It’s time to stop treating our votes like guarantees and start treating them like leverage.
Treating somebody with humanity should be the bare minimum… not something that deserves a standing ovation. But sometimes as gay men… especially Black gay men… the bar for straight men not being homophobic feels so low that basic respect starts feeling extraordinary. And honestly… it should never be that low.
Just a lil comedy
