The most expensive way to build a backyard is one piece at a time.
Year one: a pool. Year three: a kitchen. Year five: a pavilion. The result is almost always a disjointed yard with terrible flow, ripped-up landscaping, and mismatched materials. Even if you are building in phases over ten years, you need a single, cohesive Master Plan on day one.
Plan the whole vision first and then build at your own pace.
Cutting the wrong corners during construction will haunt you every day you live in the house.
There is a massive difference between "value engineering" and just being cheap. Downgrading your patio stone to save a few bucks? Bad idea. Simplifying a complicated retaining wall to redirect that budget into better, longer-lasting pool equipment? That’s smart.
Don't compromise the bones to save on the budget.
