"All About You" (2001) is a romance film written and directed by Christine Swanson, starring Renée Elise Goldsberry and Terron Brooks. The late 1990s and early 2000s saw an increase in romance films centered on the relationships of young Black adults. While a few received major studio backing, many others operated under the radar, circulating primarily through film festivals and struggling to secure wide distribution even after positive receptions.

"All About You" fits within that quieter group of films. It is a soft, calming romance with a strong cast and an understated approach. The film avoids heightened theatrics and urban framing, relying instead on mood, performance, and emotional restraint. Its subtlety is precisely what makes it easy to appreciate and revisit.

Storyline
Nicole Taylor (Renée Goldsberry) postpones law school to be with Robbie, the love of her life. Ambitious, intelligent, successful, and irresistible. He was everything a woman wanted. Until one night at a party celebrating Robbie's success, she painfully discovers that she was just a pit stop on his roadmap through life. She leaves Los Angeles to start a new life in San Francisco, where she moves in with her best friend Lisa (LisaRaye) and gets a job waiting tables at Toomies, a jazz supper club. Nicole's caught by surprise when Lisa leaves for a month, subletting her room to Brian (Terron Brooks), Robbie's estranged younger brother. Brian has wandered the globe the past few years, escaping the pressures of his family name and all that comes with it. Forced to share living and work spaces, Nicole and Brian can't avoid each other. As their attraction grows, they are also forced to deal with their painful pasts to open themselves to another chance at love.

Rutina Wesley is an accomplished actress whose work spans television, film, and theater. She can most recently be seen starring as Maria in HBO’s critically acclaimed series THE LAST OF US. She is also widely recognized for her starring role as Nova Bordelon in Ava DuVernay’s award-winning drama QUEEN SUGAR, which ran for seven seasons and earned widespread critical praise.

Prior to QUEEN SUGAR, Wesley starred in Bryan Fuller’s critically acclaimed series HANNIBAL, and she is perhaps best known for her breakout role as Tara Thornton on Alan Ball’s iconic HBO series TRUE BLOOD, a performance that cemented her as a fan favorite and a powerful dramatic presence on television.

Her theater credits include Viola in Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT at The Old Globe, THE SUBMISSION Off-Broadway under the direction of Walter Bobbie, and a Broadway turn opposite Julianne Moore in David Hare’s THE VERTICAL HOUR, directed by Sam Mendes.

In film, Wesley has demonstrated impressive range across genres, with roles in 13 SINS (Radius/TWC), THE PERFECT GUY (Screen Gems), LAST WEEKEND (Sundance Selects), and the lead role in the Sundance Film Festival favorite HOW SHE MOVE, which was acquired and distributed by MTV Films.

Wesley attended Las Vegas Academy, where she studied theater and dance, and earned her BFA in Theater Performance from the University of Evansville. She later trained at The Juilliard School, graduating in 2005 as a member of Group 34. She also studied in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art’s Summer Shakespeare Intensive, where she portrayed Juliet in ROMEO AND JULIET.
