FOTW: Arrival - Directed by Denis Villeneuve (I like his stuff can't you tell) revolves around aliens coming to earth and man's attempt to communicate with them. The film goes beyond just a sci-fi film and is more a drama using the strange circumstances to get at something integral to humanity itself: time. Highly recommended!

The Hearts volunteer of the month! Congratulations!

The cold wind whips the crew as cars pull through the Hearts to Nourish Hope food pantry. John rushes around handing out bags of food to cars as they pull through. Originally from New York, John moved to Georgia and immediately recognized a need within the community: food insecurity. “People are relying on the food banks, but you need people who are dedicated to give it to them.” Since covid sent the world spinning out of control, Heart’s has increasingly fed more and more families in the community. With unemployment and covid cases on the rise, uncertainty has become the new normal. John never let that phase him. Volunteering for over 8 years, he’s made it a mission to do all he can for those in need. When asked why he volunteers he simply replied “We’re doing all the good we can do”. Thank you so much John for all you do, your efforts do not go unnoticed! Today we recognize our March volunteer of the month: John Bunn!

Film of the week more like SHOW of the week! Queens Gambit is probably one of the best series on Netflix right now and revolves around a chess master named Beth. The show does really well in expressing the mental pressures and trauma associated with success. Not to mention it also has damn good actors and set design. Give it a watch if you haven't seen it yet!

Portraits are more than just photos, they’re a way to document a point in life that will only exist in that moment. People often don’t understand that the photos they take today are snapshots of a life soon forgot with time. Portraits are one way to ensure these moments aren’t lost forever.

Digital or film? The first photo is film and the second is digital. What’s the better look in your opinion? Or why do you use film or not?

I personally really like the feel of film. It’s a much slower process and I feel very intentional whenever I use it. 1 hour of shooting film will result in 5 or 10 images where as on digital I could easily hit 100 in the same amount of time. I love using digital but damn taking the time to compose a shot and not seeing them for a month changes the whole process. What are your thoughts?
