Like in most sectors Black people have been overlooked and under credited.

JRY has made it its mission and business to uplift Black people in every way we possibly can.

Branding is hard, especially when you are positioned in any part of the luxury sector. Blanding or bland branding is a common way to approach logo and typography in this sector, but Black people hav eso much to say that doesn’t always fit in the typical serif and same serif world. We battled with the typography for this logo for the past year trying to find something that made a statement as bold as the people we represent while still being modern for the aesthetic we wanted to give, combing through open source bespoke typography. We finally came across the likes of .co founded by Tré Seals.

Tré Seals designed the SPIKE typeface. This typeface is inspired by the custom typography that he created for Spike Lee’s book SPIKE. He took inspiration from throughout Spike Lee’s career the iconic “LOVE” and “HATE” from Do The Right Thing and the MARS chain from She’s Gotta Have It. He also drew inspiration for a series of Micheal Jordan Nike commercials, numbers on the New York Knicks jerseys, as well as both Micheal Jordan and Robinson jerseys.
