Dear fresh college students, please stop taking managerial courses like Human Resource Management. The main job of HR is managing and supervising other staff. Which means they're already up there in the corporate ladder. It's not an entry level course. Who will you supervise when you're just a green entrant? You need to be supervised yourself!

Only take a course like this if you have a solid plan that makes it necessary, like starting your own business and it's the knowledge you willl need to manage your own staff.

The same case applies to Business Management and Project Management. It's management I mean, just like the name suggests. Nobody graduates fresh from college as a manager. These courses were originally designed to provide additional competency for people already in the market. A person who has a rank or a well to do business can study a diploma in business administration by the side, or the popular MBA.

Better to choose a course that is both in your strength zone and which can give you an opportunity to enter at the bottom of the corporate ladder, or entry level jobs. Things like ICT, Film and production, most of the hands-on courses in TVET institutions like masonry, building and construction.

Do not take TV journalism unless you intend to start your own TV on Tiktok. And you don't need such expensive training to do Tiktok, do you. Most TV personalities did not study it as a major. They practised it by the side while growing another career. That's what you do with hit-and-miss careers. You build them by the side without putting your whole weight on them until you find a breakthrough.

WHY I’VE STOOD BY RAILA ODINGA

IN 2005, before the first Constitutional Referendum, I met Raila Odinga. I listened to him & was converted to his moral view point & political philosophy. I haven’t wavered since then. I truly believe he is the one to lead Kenya to Canaaan. His victory will truly break the last ceiling that is holding Kenya back. His ascendency to Presidency will be transcendental and transformative.

I met William Ruto in 1992 and we have been friends since then. And we have been BFFs. I also personally know Kalonzo Musyoka, Najib Balala, Musalia Mudavadi and Late Joseph Nyaga.

Between 2005 to 2009, Messrs Raila, Ruto, Kalonzo, Balala, Mudavadi and Nyaga were in political dalliance of one form or another.

In 2006, Kalonzo made me his Head of Strategy. I begun working on a political agreement where the six were to rise to the Offices of President and Prime Minister in a sequential order of seniority, the Presidency being the top office. Each was to be President for One Term then retire from politics. At the end of 30 Years beginning in 2007, each was to have become President.

I convened meetings between the six and I was the only Convenor. After several meetings in Karen Blixen, attended by all six, the talks collapsed because of one person. For the record, Raila was in full agreement with the rapprochement.

As the Convenor of the talks that I wholly believed and believe in, Raila hasn’t gotten the first bite of the cherry for the sequential order to be in motion. If political agreements are to be kept, this is one.

Many can say what they want to, but knowing Raila personally, he keeps his word. He has mentored many and takes no credit or demands restitution when they abandon him. Majority of those elected recently to all seats, are his former or current protégés.

Raila is a man of honour. He is the Father of our democracy. He is a patriot. No other Kenyan, dead or alive has sacrificed so much for Kenya than Raila.
