Sometimes seeking the help they want is really tough. He asked us to take him to “St Jude’s” this morning for treatment, so Leroy Lamar met him at 6am so he could get in line. At 9 he called to say that they couldn’t take him because of his heart condition. By 10, Leroy met with the intake person who gave us a few more options for him (there aren’t many treatment centers available that also provide medical care). By 11, we were at Mercy Care where they evaluated him and suggested we try Dekalb Crisis Center. It is now 3pm and he is still patiently waiting for the proper assessments to see if he’ll be admitted. We sit with him, we make sure he eats and drinks, we wait in the waiting rooms with others seeking help for themselves. We help fill out forms, we nudge him from his naps when they call his name. This is what client-led looks like for Comprehensive Community Services because we believe EVERYONE deserves a friend.

This helps us provide support to dozens of sęx workers, human trafficking victims, homeless veterans, and single mothers living in hotels here in Atlanta.
