Therapy, Coaching & Intensive Outpatient Care: Mental health support that fits college life & beyond | Athens, GA

A lot of us are carrying habits that once made sense.

Working until we’re exhausted. Waiting until things get bad before asking for help. Measuring ourselves by what we accomplish. Acting like we should have everything figured out by now.

The tricky part is that these habits are often rewarded. They can look responsible, productive, and successful from the outside.

That doesn’t mean they’re helping us build a life that feels sustainable.

At Stillwell, we work with young adults who are ready to take a closer look at the patterns shaping their lives and experiment with something different. Our Intensive Outpatient Program combines individual therapy, group support, and practical skill-building to help people get unstuck and move forward with more intention.

Some of the most impactful moments happen when people are willing to share honestly about where they’ve been, what they’ve overcome, and what has helped them move forward.

Thank you to Thomas Henderson Jr. for sharing his story of recovery, resilience, and the daily practices that support lasting change. We followed his talk with breathwork practice, reflection, and meaningful connection….a reminder that healing happens both in the work we do individually and in the stories we share with one another. 🤍

Looking for more support but can’t step away from work, school, or the rest of your life?

Stillwell Athens offers intensive outpatient treatment for young adults who need more than weekly therapy. Our program includes group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatry, and practical support throughout the week, all within a schedule designed to work alongside existing responsibilities.

Many of the people we work with are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, burned out, or caught in patterns they haven’t been able to shift on their own. IOP provides more structure, more support, and more opportunities to practice new ways of responding to life’s challenges.

If you’re wondering whether IOP might be a good fit, we’re happy to talk.

People often ask what happens in an IOP.

Most people begin by getting a clearer understanding of what they’re dealing with and learning skills that help them feel more grounded day to day.

As treatment progresses, the focus shifts toward the patterns, relationships, and habits that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, or feeling stuck. New skills are practiced both in and outside of group, with room to learn what works and what doesn’t.

Toward the end of the program, attention turns to maintaining progress and building a plan for ongoing support after discharge.

This process looks different for everyone, but the goal is the same: helping people leave treatment with a stronger understanding of themselves and practical tools they can continue using in everyday life.

Summer is often sold as a season of freedom, fun, and feeling good. But for many young adults, it can also bring unexpected stress, loneliness, pressure, and disruption to routines that were helping.

If summer hasn’t felt the way you thought it would, you’re not alone.

At Stillwell, we help young adults navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the challenges that can arise when structure disappears and expectations take over.

What exactly is IOP?

Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) is a structured mental health program that combines group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatric support, and practical skill-building throughout the week.

For many young adults, it provides the consistency, connection, and support needed to create meaningful change.

At Stillwell, our IOP is designed for young adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and other mental health concerns while continuing to live at home and engage in daily life.

We often talk about anxiety and depression as individual problems. But many young adults are responding to very real pressures: achievement expectations, questions about purpose, and concerns about the future.

According to a recent study from Harvard, the most commonly reported drivers of poor mental health among young adults are pressure to achieve, feeling uncertain about direction and purpose, and stress related to finances and other adult responsibilities.

Understanding what contributes to distress can help us move beyond asking, “What’s wrong with me?” and toward asking, “What am I carrying?”

At Stillwell IOP, we often work with young adults who are navigating exactly these challenges. Our program is designed to provide structured support while helping participants build coping skills, strengthen relationships, clarify values, and develop a greater sense of direction and confidence in daily life.

Young adulthood can be exciting, meaningful, overwhelming, and destabilizing all at once.

Many young adults continue going to class, working, socializing, or meeting expectations while quietly struggling underneath the surface. Mental health changes are not always obvious, especially during major life transitions.

Sometimes what looks like “normal stress” may actually be anxiety, burnout, depression, emotional overwhelm, or difficulty coping day to day.

Support does not have to wait until things reach a crisis point.

Stillwell Athens provides therapy and Intensive Outpatient support for young adults navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, life transitions, and emotional dysregulation. Visit stillwellathens.com to learn more 🔗

Sometimes weekly therapy is not quite enough support, but inpatient care is not the right fit either.

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers structured mental health support several days per week while allowing people to continue living at home, staying connected to school or work, and maintaining daily life.

Stillwell IOP is designed for young adults navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, emotional dysregulation, life transitions, and other mental health challenges that may be impacting day-to-day functioning.

Our program combines group therapy, skills-based support, relational care, and evidence-based approaches in a grounded, supportive environment here in Athens.

You do not have to hit a breaking point to deserve additional support. Learn more at stillwellathens.com 🔗
