Being able to leave the workforce isn’t enough to make you happy on its own. World Elder Care Abuse Awareness Day provides an important opportunity to learn how to care for loved ones in their golden years. Adequate financial planning is important, but so is finding care you can trust. Here are some considerations when looking for an assisted living facility:

-Location. Is it close enough for friends and family to visit? It’s important to make sure your loved one doesn’t feel isolated, and visits also allow you to assess the quality of their care.
-Size. Does the staff-to-resident ratio allow for adequate care? Does the facility have the resources for programs, amenities, or specialized care?
-Transitions to next-level care. Is the facility an Enhanced Assisted Living Facility (certified for residents to age in place) or part of a community that will make transitions easier as your loved one’s needs increase?

-Do online banking at home instead of relying on public WiFi
-Contact financial institutions directly instead of responding to emails, phone calls, or text alerts
