Last week I had the honor and pleasure to share the virtual stage at Emory University School Of Medicine
with these wonderful speakers for the Faculty-Staff Partnership in Action series! I got to share my experience working in partnership with Dr. Ulemu Luhanga in work and service at the institutional, regional, and national level! To know me is to know my passion for this work and I was grateful for the opportunity to speak about what we have done together and what we will do in the future! It was also great to hear our colleagues Dr. Ravi Rajani and Constance Nagle, JM and their partnership in action as well!

Thank you Dr. Sheryl Heron, MD, MPH K'Erika Green,MPH,CAPM Cliff Teague Aaron Lee and anyone else I missed for your leadership and for this opportunity!

As Immediate past-president of the Georgia Association for Women in Higher Education (GAWHE), I am excited for our 2026 GAWHE Annual Conference!

The countdown begins!

Life has been “lifing” in my world and I decided to tap into one of the social media trends to take my mind off of it all. I know I am late to the party, never could have imagined doing so would bring me some clarity I have been seeking. I’m an AI enthusiast at best, but use it for work! Here is the prompt:

“Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me.”

Everything tracked in terms of work, and I LOVE that SPACE in Medical Education was included as the creation of it will always be near and dear to me! However, the BRIDGE was throwing me off. It did not make sense! What does it mean? So of course I go back and ask! All that was gray in my head became clear with the response:

“I’m so glad you asked this—because the bridge is very intentional 😊 The bridge symbolizes you as a connector and translator across spaces that don’t always speak the same language.”

It even broke it down to where I am a connector and translator, which included:

✅Faculty ↔ Staff
✅Education ↔ Operations
✅Innovation ↔ Compliance
✅Individuals ↔ Systems

But the line that got me the most?

“Honestly? The bridge might be the most “you” part of the whole image.”

And I could not agree more! I enjoy bringing people together to educate, translate, and fill in the gaps! And it has now become the inspiration for my aspiration to do more “bridging” in the future!

I had the pleasure of co-presenting with Kelly Spain yesterday for Emory University School of Medicine Learning to Be Better Teachers Conference on AI as the Assistant Every Educator Need! We had a great time and engaing group, despite some hiccups! I also realized that I have presented regionally and nationally, but this was my first time presenting at Emory SOM! Thank you Kelly for taking the time to be there with me and looking to learn more from you! You ROCKED it!

I'M SPEAKING......KINDA! 😀

If you are attending AAMC Learn Serve Lead 2025, I am excited to invite you to join my colleagues Deborah Birnbaum and Jon Goforth for our session, "Staff Professionals as Key Collaborators for Educational Success!" Although I am not physically there at the conference, you will "see" me speak in the session!

Professional staff are the backbone of educational continuity and innovation in academic medicine. Yet, high turnover rates continue to strain institutional resources and impact learner experiences, research, and patient care.

This session will explore actionable strategies for staff development, mentorship, and retention, and share insights from ongoing SPACE advocacy efforts within the AAMC Group on Educational Affairs. Together, we’ll discuss how to better support, recognize, and invest in the staff professionals who make our missions possible.

Whether you’re a staff professional, administrator, or faculty leader, this conversation is for you! A special thank you to Brian Herman, as his hard work helped us get our acceptance for this session!

We hope to see you there!

starts today and I was supposed to be there as myself and my SPACE in Medical Education colleagues session was accepted!

However, I am not sad. Why you ask? Because the impact of our work is showing! I received a message from one of the two women that serve as inspiration of this work, Dr. Myra Haney Singleton who was sitting in sessions where SPACE was acknowledged!

This also served as an opportunity to extend the registration to one of my team members and colleagues Lisa Brooks-McDonald! This will be her first time attending, so if you see her, say hello and welcome her with open arms! 😁

I hope everyone enjoys AAMC LSL 2025! If you can, please support my colleagues at our session on Tuesday! I will share this in a separate post with all the details!
