Chillicothe Intermediate STEM

🌎 🏔️ 4th grade students who were interested in earth science careers took part in the Erosion Exploration: How Land Changes VOICE group, where they discovered through hands-on investigations how wind, water, and ice shape the world around us.🏞️They explored how erosion and weathering transform rivers, hills, and coastlines over time while learning about soil, rocks, and the powerful natural forces that continually change our landscape.🌄

🏆🏅🔬Regional Science Fair awards have been announced! Four students are moving on to State Science Day at The Ohio State University and Chillicothe Intermediate won the District 12 Elementary Division. Check out the individual awards our students earned. 🥇 Congratulations to each of you and good luck at the next competition! 🏆

🦎🧪Featured here are photos of an exciting VOICE experience for 3rd-grade students who showed interest in the careers of conservation science and herpetology. They learned real field science techniques to collect data and assess the health of the vernal pools at Buzzard's Roost, which helped prepare the site for this spring's 3rd-grade Muddy Boots Expedition 🧪 🦎

🥗🥙🍜 3rd grade students selected careers of interest to explore in depth during their VOICE studies. Aspiring chefs designed recipes with a focus on nutrition within a budget, and we sampled a variety of “rainbow”🌈 vegetables to highlight the benefits of diverse, balanced ingredients. Students also learned basic knife skills and collaborated with community expert, Maria Cunningham. 🍱 🥘 🍲

Our 5th and 6th grade science fair teams traveled to OU bright and early this morning to compete in the Regional Science Fair. Wish them luck! 💙🔬🥼🔭

We are thrilled to announce that the 4th and 6th grade Battelle teams have been recognized for their incredible work in the OSLN Battelle Design Challenge! 🏆

🎉 4th Grade Team: Rose Lawson, Louis Pritchett, and Miles Springer. This team earned the title of Southeast District HUB Winner for the Elementary School division by focusing on creating a drone cargo carrier to deliver food to children their age. 🥫🥬

🎉 6th Grade Team: Nolan Pritchard, Adrianne Woods, Lilah Burns, and Elizabeth Cooper. The 6th grade team was named the Southeast District HUB Winner for Middle School for their innovative business plan and creation of DroVEr, a drone that can deliver a battery on demand to charge an electric vehicle. 🚗 🔋

Last week both teams were recognized at the Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus for their innovations in transportation technology. 🌟

Congratulations to Jonah and Lilah!

On Friday, January 16th, Jonah and Lilah Burns presented their inventions at the Ohio Statehouse as part of the celebration for National Kid Inventor Day. 👩‍🔬🧑‍🔬

Jonah and Lilah received commendations from the Ohio Senate and Senator Shane Wilkin for their work on their projects. They will compete at Invention Convention Nationals in June of 2026 in Michigan.

🌰🌱🌳🪾Our 3rd grade has been immersed in an integrated life science study. Students completed a model of a botany field science study during a field experience at Buzzard’s Roost. In classrooms, they prepared for and built from experiences to practice math, literacy and science standards. 🥼Using the scientific method and pill bugs, students explored their inherited traits science standard with a hands on lab. And, after 3 years of training in the engineering design process at Chillicothe Primary, students collaborated to design creative solutions to a challenge related to seed dispersal. 🌰🌳
What a fun, in depth learning experience for our Intermediate School learners!
