Our Wahoo, NE, branch wrapped up this year's piggy bank contest as part of Teach Children to Save — and the excitement was real. Lily Grabowski took 1st place in her age group and won $25, while her siblings Charlotte and Ben each earned 2nd place and $15. The Grabowski kids have been entering the contest for three years, a tradition started by their grandma — or "Oma," as they called her. After a long battle with cancer, Oma recently passed away, and the grandchildren decided to carry on the tradition in her memory. It was a touching moment for all of us.
Also participating but not pictured: Oakleigh Badberg, 1st place in her age group ($25); Taytum Badberg, 2nd place ($15); and Rilynn Badberg, who received a special thank-you for participating and took home a First Interstate piggy bank.
First Interstate has been a proud partner of Teach Children to Save since 1997. Coordinated by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation, the program helps young people build lifelong savings habits through age-specific lessons led by trained bankers each spring.

Financial education is shaping the next generation of leaders — and we're proud to be part of it. 🧡
On May 21, our Missoula team volunteered at the Montana Economics Challenge at Frenchtown Schools. Our volunteers discussed financial education and economic policies with students and assisted in the awards ceremony.
Congratulations to the students recognized: Dominik Rebich, Cooper Stark, Toni Hawkins, Rheagan Torbett, Hannah Torpy, Isabele Zeckzer, Madison Lake, Areeya Mosley, Carsyn Chaussee, Briley Beyer, and Ali Sabol.
Hosted each spring by the Montana Council for Economic Education, the Challenge gives students statewide the opportunity to compete in online examinations and demonstrate their economic literacy. Participants receive cash prizes and awards, and state champions can advance to regional and national competition in Atlanta.

When veterans in Fort Dodge, IA, boarded their Honor Flight to Washington, DC, two familiar faces were there to help. 🧡
Ella Dinsdale and Jacob Grobe from our Fort Dodge team volunteered with Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight, checking in veterans as they set off to visit their memorials in the nation's capital — all at no cost.
These trips recognize American veterans for their sacrifices and achievements, and eligible veterans are encouraged to apply.

For more than 30 years, Hope Crisis Center has been the place survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault turn to across seven counties in Southeast Nebraska. 🧡
Since becoming independent in 2006, Hope Crisis Center has grown from three employees to 10, expanded to offices in Fairbury, Beatrice, Crete, Seward, and York, and in 2019 moved into its very first owned property. In 2024 alone, the center served 613 survivors — including 152 children — provided 1,328 nights of emergency shelter, and fielded more than 4,200 calls on its 24-hour hotline.
At the same time, federal funding has dropped from over $317,000 in 2020 to just $117,600 in 2025 — forcing the team to do more with less while the need continues to grow.
We're proud to award Hope Crisis Center a $25,000 Believe in Local grant through our partnership with the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation.
Lexi Martin, Community Branch Manager, nominated Hope Crisis Center for this grant.
"This grant from First Interstate comes at a critical time. As our funding has been cut, the need hasn't slowed down. This support means we can keep our hotline answered, our shelter doors open, and our advocates available for every person who reaches out for help." — Carmen Hinman, Executive Director of Hope Crisis Center
"Beatrice is better because of the work they do, and First Interstate is proud to invest in that mission." — Lexi Martin

Fighting poverty isn't just about responding to a crisis — it's about preventing the next one. 🧡
Our Bozeman team recently presented an $8,750 grant to HRDC through our partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) and its Member Impact Fund.
Since 1975, HRDC has been a cornerstone of support across Gallatin, Park, and Meagher counties — helping hardworking neighbors offset the high cost of living in Southwest Montana. Their work spans both immediate needs and long-term stability:
🍎 Nutritious food and energy assistance
🏠 Emergency shelter and community housing
🚍 Reliable transportation
👶 No-cost early childhood education
💼 Income support services to help families stay housed and stable
This grant is part of a combined $718,750 in support from First Interstate and FHLB Des Moines awarded to 35 nonprofit organizations across Montana. We contributed $200,000, and FHLB Des Moines matched through its Member Impact Fund — an up to $3:$1 matching program that helps community partners do more with every dollar.
