We have some sad news to share today. As many of you may have already heard, the Environmental Education Master’s Program is being discontinued as a part of Southern Oregon University’s recent realignment plan. The program will continue to serve out our current and last cohort until graduation in December 2023, which will include one final Fall in the Field season.

While the current iteration of the EE program is ending, there are already talks for a reimagined environmentally-oriented master’s program in the future. We are sad to see it go but hopeful that the University will find a way forward that includes the fundamentally important work of our program in some capacity.
Thank you all for your support, participation, and excitement over the years. Stay tuned as we “sunset” our program by celebrating the history of the incredible people and places it has reached.

And the 2022 Fall in the Field program is a wrap!
Last Friday of October means that we have successfully finished our fall programming.🍁
From Benthic Aquatic Macro-invertebrates to nitrate components of soils to Riparian representation and more, the students that we had the pleasure of teaching this fall have taken a closer look at what nature has to share.🍄
Each student made new and exciting connections to their outdoor classroom through this program and yours can too!👫👫👫
Fall in the field will be back next fall with another amazing and eager group of educators who are passionate about sharing the magic of Environmental Education🐟

Some more student Riparian art for you all to enjoy. In order we have a king Fischer, a northwestern river otter, a beaver, a pacific tree frog, a western pond turtle, another northwestern river otter and another beaver!🦦🦫🐸🦆🐢
Each student group creates a local riparian creature and learns from field guides about their food needs, habitat requirements, and some fun facts.🔎
They then place their model in its most ideal habitat along our outdoor classroom site🌾
The students have created a lot of incredible learning moments for themselves and eachother within this lesson🌞

Attending Fall in the field is a great way to work with scientific tools that students may have never used before. Here we are teaching a soil sampling lesson where students learn about the different types of soil, what components make up soil, and how to find the amount of nitrogen and phosphorous within the soil!
This engaging lesson led to some new discoveries about how soil affects us as people and why we should care about our dirt being healthy!
