Nearly 70 students from 21 schools across 14 cities participated through Burke & Herbert Bank for the Virginia Bankers Association Bank Day Scholarship Program. During our virtual Bank Day, students learned about personal financial management and the vital impact banks have on the community. Special thanks to Pork Barrel BBQ; ALEXANDRIA CUPCAKE; Fredericksburg Cupcake; Brightline Interactive; Capital Youth Empowerment Program ("CYEP"): Fathers in Touch; Kings Brothers and Associates, Dr. Kathleen Mullaney, DDS, FAGD and several of our bankers for their valuable insights. Students will reflect on their learnings in an essay to compete for up to $7,500 in scholarships. Good luck students!

Brightline Interactive | ACPM “Social Determinants of Health” VR Advocacy Tool

In times of having the need to pivot to virtual technologies to communicate critical messaging, we wanted to share a case study of a VR application we created to help communicate the positive effects of policy change in under-served communities. To make this vision come to life, we build an Oculus expereince demonstrating five different sets of scenes that showed the detriments of no policy change, and then identical environments with the positive effects of policy change relating to items and infrastructure that affect the social determinants of health. In only 3 minutes in VR, this project effectively contextualized the importance of implementing positive policy change to members of Congress.
