When we started the summer our basement was fine, but the bar was too big & we never used it, so now we have a smaller bar for more space to hang out, work out, play darts and games. I love how much bigger + more connected everything feels with the new library walls, hidden door & same dark green throughout the whole space. I just drilled holes for hinges in the door I cut down for the “workout cabinet”, hung it on the cabinet box & added trim to finish it out. It doesn’t have a handle because you can open it from the bottom + it will just look like a nice cabinet on the wall if we move the workout stuff wherever we have people over. I love the feeling of the whole space & how every single built thing in there was remade from old materials from something else!

I think we’ve had about 4 different versions of chicken coop doors since I made this coop over 3 years ago, so I’m hoping this one is the winner! Doors usually slide up or sideways one way, so since this one slides open both sides I had to recut a new opening for the door with a jigsaw from 3/4in plywood leftover from our basement bar + repaint it in white to match the coop. I just rehung the same hinges & slide lock to be able to still open the whole wall to get inside the coop, but the door slides perfectly, is solar powered + even has a remote to use from the house if we need to. And of course the chickens seem happy with it too 🥰🐓

I’m very close to finished with our whole basement refresh because I finished making this “workout cabinet” that just needs the door now. I made the cabinet box from old 3/4in plywood from the old bar by screwing it together with pocket holes & adding 1x4 piece supports across the top and bottom also attached with pocket holes. I screwed the wood supports straight into studs & anchors so it could hold all the heavy weights on the wall. The supports help keep the square shape but then I could also hide them by nailing a wood back on top of them + adding hangers to the top for hanging all the workout attachments. I decided to hang the cabinet in the same spot as our old dart board & leave some room on top for yoga mats. The thin wood veneer & door came from the closet build I took apart, so I just need to add the cabinet door next to hide all the workout stuff when we want it put away, but it’s already looking + functioning good!

Now I’m working on adding more character to the library walls next to the bar/reading nook room I just finished, so I cut up the 4x8ft beadboard panels I had hanging in our old family room to add them next to the library shelves I made a while ago. I only finished one side for now because the other side is going to become a secret door into my workroom. I just renailed the whole panel + arch on the wall, caulked the middle seam from cutting it, repainted it the same dark green it used to be (Valspar Belmont Green) and then added the dart board that used to be across the room to make it flow with the bar area better. I also added foam & nautical fabric from the bar to the back of the dart board so the darts would stick in the back as well. It already looks way cuter, but wait til you see the other side come together…

I did this quick upgrade in a day because I already had this beautiful closet from another build that I just screwed into a stud in our guest room closet. I had already taken off the doors to this bedroom closet & turned it into a storage side + guest side a while ago, so I just added the closet for guests (& my husband who works in this room) to store clothes while they’re here and the wood tone fits this wood slat space perfectly. I still have a second one to sell that would fit perfect in any open closet or airbnb situation like this if you’re local to Denver and interested ($200).

This beautiful bar cart is all finished & got picked up today to become a beautiful floral stand for . It looks lovely, is strong enough to hold the flowers, light enough to easily move around with wheels that have brakes to be set out somewhere + is painted in exterior white paint so it can even withstand the weather. It has a moveable shelf to hold whatever needs to be inside & would look perfect at any backyard party!
