These students are truly amazing, and we are honored to support such a dedicated, disciplined, and hardworking group of young athletes.

Last week, Brighton City Council recognized the Brighton High School, SD27J Competitive Trap Shooting Team for winning the 2025 Colorado State Championship in Trap Shooting.

The BHS Trap Team has rapidly established itself as a proud and competitive part of our school’s extracurricular offerings, representing Brighton in the USA High School Clay Target League—the nation’s largest school-approved clay target shooting organization. The team includes more than 50 co-ed student-athletes from Brighton High School and Riverdale Ridge High School and emphasizes safety, skill development, and sportsmanship while fostering teamwork and a strong sense of community.

In Colorado league competition, the team has demonstrated consistent excellence, earning first place in the fall conference for all five years of participation and capturing the Colorado state championship in June 2025. Brighton athletes have also achieved top individual finishes across Novice, Junior Varsity, and Varsity divisions for both female and male competitors. At the national level, a Brighton High School athlete earned second place in the women’s individual division at the USA High School Clay Target League National Championship.

The League’s mission goes beyond competition. Participating students learn safe and responsible firearm handling, develop teamwork and sportsmanship, and build confidence and mutual respect. The co-ed and adaptive nature of the sport means students of all backgrounds and abilities can participate.
