TABTO, two are better than one. We Lobby for better standards of care for our companions. We closed our 501c3 and web site in 2025. #advocacy

There are few greater privileges in this life than saving an animal who needed you.

Prior to the formalization of TABTO, the founders responded to a need to help save dogs from Clovis, New Mexico, and facilitated a solution!

The Buff Restaurant in Boulder, Colorado, is owned by Jacquelyn Botts-Meyer and her husband, Chris. The restaurant graciously donated a van to the cause and it has helped transport hundreds of dogs from New Mexico over the border to Colorado! That became our mission. Serving unwanted shelter dogs.

In addition, we have raised thousands of dollars, facilitated the adoptions of many dogs, and provided hundreds of hours of volunteer time to dog rescue efforts in Roswell New Mexico, Colvis, Oklahoma, and Colorado.

TABTO intends to facilitate even more worthy collaborations by engaging multiple rescue organizations and related volunteers across the state of Colorado! We are excited about the work ahead!

After getting sued and understanding more about the business models, we closed our doors and lobbyed for better standards of care and quality of life for our companions. All animal rescuers do not have angel wings.

After almost a decade we have a registered lobbyist to support us in the the coming Sunset Review with our legislators in 2026….. Fighting the good fight.

We are finally seeing the why for our work. Thank you God for seeing us through!

We can still be kind but we must tell the sad truth.

It’s Time to Rewrite the Rescue Story — Starting with Colorado……….

Colorado is now the largest importer of puppies and dogs in the country — yet our own shelter dogs, especially in rural communities, are being left behind.

In 2024 alone, licensed Colorado rescues imported over 16,000 dogs, making up 66% of their total intake.
At the same time, only 11% came from in-state shelters, and the five largest rescues took less than 1% of their dogs from Colorado partners.

Meanwhile, rural shelters like Cortez Animal Shelter were forced to euthanize 25% of their dogs — not for lack of adoptability, but because no one came for them.

In contrast, Front Range shelters had euthanasia rates as low as 7%–11%.
This isn’t just a numbers game — it’s a crisis of transparency, equity, and compassion.

🏡 Most Rural shelters can’t adopt out directly. They rely on rescues or shelters to step in. But when those rescues focus almost entirely on out-of-state dogs, Colorado dogs lose their chance.

Let’s get back to putting our strays, our shelter dogs, and our communities first.
Let’s support rural Colorado, where help is needed most.

Let’s be honest with adopters and donors who believe they’re helping local pets — but aren’t with Foster’s, donors. Colorado’s dogs and puppies shoukd cone first. TRASPARENCY is key. Pet stores have to disclose the origins where their puppies cone from so should rescues and shelters contractually.

Colorado’s dogs deserve better. So do the people working tirelessly to save them.

📣 It’s time to rewrite the rescue story.

🚨 Colorado Dogs Are in CrisisA heartfelt plea from the front lines of rescue and shelter work:🛑 Dogs are being euthanized daily in our shelters—rural and metro alike. Good dogs. Local dogs. Forgotten dogs.🚐 Over 80% of some rescue intakes are out-of-state dogs, many with complex needs. Meanwhile, Colorado dogs are warehoused, deteriorating, or dying.💸 DOGS. DONORS. DOLLARS. Emotion is being used to fund a broken system—while our own are left behind.💔 This isn’t rescue. It’s burnout. It’s misalignment. It’s a system that’s lost its way.

**“Every state has shelter dogs waiting for a second chance — and every person can help. Maybe you can adopt or foster. Maybe you can volunteer, share a post, or bake cookies for a fundraiser.

No act of kindness is too small when it comes to helping animals in need.

Together, across this country, we can turn compassion into action and give our shelter dogs the love and care they deserve.

Let’s be the encounter that changes their story.”
