WHAT IF I'M AWKWARD, SHY, OR NERVOUS?

One thing we've noticed over the years is that the people who ask this question are usually assuming everyone else in class is naturally confident.

They're not.

Most people walk through the door feeling awkward.
Most people feel nervous.
Most people wonder if they'll fit in.

That's normal.

Confidence isn't a requirement for starting.
It's often the result of starting.

The goal isn't to walk in the door fearless.
The goal is to walk in the door anyway.
Then keep showing up.

What is something you've done recently that pushed you outside your comfort zone?

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS IN AN INTRO CLASS?

A lot of people imagine an intro class is going to be intimidating. They picture everyone else knowing exactly what they're doing while they stand there feeling awkward. The reality is much less exciting.

You'll learn a few basics.
You'll meet some people.
You'll probably make a few mistakes.
You'll probably laugh a little.

And you'll quickly realize that everyone else started exactly where you are.

Nobody expects beginners to be good at martial arts.
That's why they're beginners.

The only thing we expect is a willingness to learn.

What's keeping you from getting started?

TRAINING YOUR SPIRIT WORKS A LOT LIKE TRAINING YOUR BODY

Nobody expects to get stronger without training.
Nobody expects to improve a skill they never practice.
Yet sometimes we expect spiritual growth to happen automatically.

Growth in our relationship with God happens the same way growth happens in most areas of life.

Consistently.
A little at a time.

Prayer.
Scripture.
Worship.
Obedience.

Nothing flashy.

Just faithfully doing the things God has called us to do over and over again.

Which spiritual discipline has helped you grow the most?

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR CHILD WANTS TO QUIT?

Sooner or later almost every child wants to quit something.

Sometimes it's martial arts.
Sometimes it's a sport.
Sometimes it's school, chores, or something else entirely.

The question isn't whether they'll want to quit.
The question is what they'll learn when they do.

Now, we're not saying kids should never quit anything.
Sometimes quitting is the right decision.

But children also need opportunities to learn that difficult doesn't mean impossible.

A lot of growth happens right after the point where we feel like giving up.

That's true for kids.
It's true for adults too.

Has your child ever surprised themselves by pushing through something difficult?

THE PROBLEM WITH ALL-OR-NOTHING THINKING

We've seen a lot of people get stuck because they think everything has to be perfect. ➡️They miss one workout and decide the week is ruined.
➡️They miss one day reading their Bible and decide they'll start over next month.
➡️They have one bad meal and convince themselves they've failed.

Life doesn't work that way.

You don't have to be perfect to make progress. You just have to keep moving forward. Most success comes from doing the right things consistently, not perfectly.

Anyone can quote a Bible verse.

That doesn't mean their interpretation is correct.

Even Satan quoted Scripture when he tempted Jesus.

Don't accept something as true just because a verse is attached to it. Open your Bible, check the context, and study it for yourself.

THE BIGGEST SELF-DEFENSE MYTH PEOPLE BELIEVE

One of the biggest self-defense myths people believe is that they'll somehow rise to the occasion when they need to.

That's usually not what happens.

Under pressure, you don't suddenly become better than you've trained to be.
You fall back on your training.

That's why we spend so much time on fundamentals.
That's why we repeat things.
That's why we focus on simple movements instead of complicated ones.

Simple and practiced beats fancy and forgotten every time.

The goal isn't to know the most techniques.
The goal is to have skills you can actually use.

What do you think matters most in self-defense: knowledge or practice?

LUKE 6:31 - "And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them."

Simple.
Not easy.

Most people are easy to respect when they're kind, helpful, and agreeable. The challenge comes when they're not.

That's where this verse gets real.

Respect isn't just about manners. It's recognizing that every person has value because they were created by God.

Even the difficult ones.
Especially the difficult ones.

How can you live this verse out this week?

This may surprise you, but...

WE DON'T TEACH CONFIDENCE.

People talk about teaching confidence.

But we don't think confidence can actually be taught. It has to be earned.

Every time you keep a promise to yourself, confidence grows.
Every workout you complete.
Every class you attend.
Every difficult conversation you have.
Every time you do the right thing when it would be easier not to.

Little by little, confidence grows because you're proving to yourself that you're capable of more than you thought.

What's one promise you've kept to yourself recently?
