It’s Teacher Appreciation Week, and at Roots, our teachers are so much more than educators. 🤍

For many of our girls, school has become one of the biggest sources of stress before they arrive — falling behind, feeling overwhelmed, or believing they’re “not capable.” Our education team steps into that space with patience, structure, and belief in each student’s ability to grow.

They don’t just teach curriculum. They help rebuild confidence. They create a classroom where it feels safe to try again. And they give our girls the opportunity not only to catch up, but often to get ahead — changing the way they see themselves in the process.

This work is deeply connected to mental health. When a student begins to feel capable again, when school no longer feels like a constant weight, it opens the door for so much more healing to happen.

To our education team — thank you for the consistency, creativity, and care you bring every day. You are a vital part of this work, and the impact you make goes far beyond the classroom.

It’s Nurses Week, and we couldn’t let it start without recognizing the incredible role our nurses play every single day. 🤍

At Roots Renewal Ranch, nursing is not just a function — it’s a foundation. Our nurses are often the steady presence in the middle of everything: managing medications, supporting regulation, responding in moments of crisis, educating clients and families, and helping hold the clinical and emotional safety of the entire program.

They lead quietly and consistently. They advocate, they notice the details others might miss, and they step in when it matters most. The work they do requires both clinical skill and deep compassion — and they bring both, every day.

We truly could not do this work without them.

To our nursing team — thank you for the care you provide, the standards you uphold, and the way you show up for our clients and for each other.

Throughout April, we’ve had the chance to celebrate and highlight something we already know deeply at Roots… occupational therapy changes lives. 🤍

Our OT team helps our girls reconnect with themselves in the smallest and biggest ways — building routines, regulating emotions, creating safety in their bodies, practicing life skills, finding joy again, and learning that healing is not just something you talk about in therapy, it’s something you practice every single day.

What makes OT at Roots so special is that it isn’t confined to one room or one hour of the day. It’s woven into the way we care for our clients as a whole. From sensory support, to meals, movement, school, relationships, community living, and confidence-building, OT touches nearly every part of the healing process.

To our OT team — thank you for the patience, creativity, advocacy, and heart you bring into this work. Thank you for helping our girls feel capable again. Thank you for teaching the rest of us along the way, too!

What makes this especially meaningful is that both our Dr. Kate Metzger, Director of OT & Programming & Dr. Mackenzie Zurcher, occupational therapist, completed their capstone projects here at Roots—helping shape the foundation of our programming today.

Our model emphasizes real-world application, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration. While students come to learn from our team, they quickly discover what we know to be true—our clients are some of the most impactful teachers in the room.

This integration of education and practice strengthens our clinical model and supports continued growth, innovation, and quality of care.
