Yesterday in Almaty, Internews was proud to support the premiere of “Alatau: Following the Disappearing Glaciers” - a powerful cross‑border documentary created by journalists from and 🎞️🧊

💧 As glaciers in the Zailiysky Alatau rapidly recede, communities across face mounting water shortages, threats to livelihoods, and growing environmental uncertainty. This film gives voice to those on the front lines: glaciologists, farmers, and residents whose daily lives are already shaped by climate change.

At Internews, we believe local content in local languages is essential to telling these complex stories in ways that resonate. With the right support, local journalists and filmmakers can uncover urgent truths, challenge misinformation, and spark informed public dialogue on issues such as water security and climate resilience.

We’re grateful to all the journalists, experts, and partners who made this screening possible, and we remain committed to strengthening the media sector across Central Asia so that stories like this can be told and heard.
