Another great couple weeks of summertime fun in the sun! Making memories, finding killer fossils...all in a day's work here at FRE 🦈
Check out this rare find 🔥
This is a giant claw core from an extinct ground tortoise, recovered from our Swamp Buggy Creek Dig. Made of keratin, the same material found in fingernails, they are not often found intact.
These Ice Age fossils are identifiable by the 'shredded wheat' texture that is seen in animal claw core fossils, and have a single smooth back edge with two small neural holes on the underside. They are usually 1 to 3 inches long in size, and are quite scarce, especially in this bright coloration and pristine condition. ✨️

One thing is for sure-smoker BONE VALLEY teeth like this one recovered from our test material are coming to the party... and a big party it will be 🇺🇸 🔥

Two of our favorite fossils to find! 👀
Pictured here are two examples of osteoderms from Florida's favorite giant armadillo-like armored xenarthrans, the Glyptodont (bottom) and the Holmesina (top).
Holmesina was a pampathere, an animal that resembled a giant armadillo but which was probably more closely related to glyptodonts.
Glyptodonts were much more armored and notably larger than Holmesina, sometimes growing to the size of a small car.
These are two prime examples of these fossils and are highly sought after by our clients.
Had a day today in the creek! Megalodons came out to play 🦈
