Dad doesn't want another tie. He doesn't need cologne that smells like a department store lobby. And if he gets one more "World's Best Dad" mug, he's going to start questioning the superlative.

We can do better than that.

Southern General's Father's Day Shopping Guide is here...real gifts, every budget, every kind of dad.

Come see us at 101 N Main Street in Arab. We'll help you find the one thing he'll actually use.

Open 7-days a week!

🇺🇸 A Wine With 250 Years of Story In It

Some bottles you just sell. This one you tell.
Meet Westhoff Pioneers “USA” a Sonoma red blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah, crafted by fifth-generation winemaker Joe Wagner. The name traces all the way back to Westhoffen, a little French town where his family first learned to coax flavor out of a vine before packing up in the 1850s and crossing an ocean for the chance to build something new.

That’s the part we love. As America rolls toward its 250th birthday, this collection asks a pretty good question: who got us here? The answer is a melting pot of immigrant winemakers who showed up with calloused hands, hard-won knowledge, and the stubborn belief that the New World had room for their kind of work. Sound familiar? That’s about as American a story as they come.

In the glass, the “USA” is a crowd-pleaser with a backbone — dried cranberries, boysenberry, baking spice, cassis, and wild raspberry, all wrapped in something plush and warm. Built from older Sonoma vines that have seen enough California sunsets to know exactly what they’re doing.

Pour it next to a tri-tip on the grill, a blue cheese burger, or a pork chop and potatoes. Pour it on the Fourth. Pour it for the people who showed up before you and made a place worth toasting.

It’s on the shelf at Southern General. Come raise a glass to 250 years...and to everybody who pioneered the way there. 🥂

Caught this last night while I was outside telling Duke goodnight.

I've been doing this since I was little...making the rounds to tell every pup in my care, inside or out, goodnight before I head in. Didn't matter then and doesn't matter now whether they understood a word of it. You go out, you say your piece, you scratch an ear or two, and you come back inside feeling like the day got closed out proper.

Duke held up his end of the ritual same as always. And the sky decided to put on a little show while we were at it.

Some habits you don't outgrow. This is one of my favorites.

Three bottles. One thousand years of patience.

There's a word on these labels that gets thrown around loosely these days, so let's set the record straight. Trappist isn't a style. It isn't a marketing flourish. It's a designation earned, not claimed.

To carry the Authentic Trappist Product seal, a beer has to clear three bars.

It must be brewed inside the walls of a Trappist monastery.

It must be made under the supervision of the monks themselves, or by their direction.

And the proceeds...after the abbey keeps the lights on...go to charity and good works, not to shareholders or some distant beverage conglomerate.

Jesus would approve.

There's no profit motive in the way you and I understand profit. The brewing exists to sustain the monastery and its mission. The beer is almost a byproduct of a quieter purpose.

That's why there are only a handful of true Trappist breweries in the entire world. These are monks who took vows of stability and silence, who rise before dawn to pray, and who somewhere between the prayers and the chores produce some of the most revered ale on earth.

The recipes have been refined across generations of men who were in no particular hurry. You can taste that. There's a depth to a real Trappist beer that you don't get from anything brewed on a deadline.

So when you pour one of these, you're not just drinking a Belgian ale. You're drinking centuries of devotion, restraint, and craft...bottled by people who'd be perfectly content if you never knew their names.

Worth slowing down for. 🍺
