I’ve been pondering lately…
For the most part, people always say, “Look forward. Pay attention to what’s ahead.” And I understand the sentiment. Don’t get stuck in the past. Keep moving. Your future is in front of you.
But I wonder if, at times, we’ve swung too far in that direction.
Can it be harmful when we never stop to look in our rearview mirror?
Not to dwell on regret. Not to wish for days gone by. But to remember.
To remember the people who sacrificed so we could stand where we do today.
To remember the values, traditions, and lessons that shaped us.
To remember the hands that built what we now enjoy.
The hands that snapped beans on a front porch while sharing stories that never made it into history books. The hands that planted gardens, changed tires, raised families, fought wars, and quietly carried burdens so the next generation could have a little more.
Today, many of us know where we’re going, but we’ve forgotten where we came from. Forgotten those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy.
A tree that forgets its roots doesn’t stand for long.
Maybe the goal isn’t to live in the past or ignore the future. Maybe it’s to honor where we’ve come from while faithfully moving toward where we’re going.
The windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror for a reason—but every now and then, it’s worth taking a glance back.
After all, legacy isn’t just what we leave behind.
It’s also what was left for us to steward forward.

Screwworm and Alabama… 🪱
Alabama is taking proactive steps to keep New World Screwworm (NWS) out of our state. In response to the recent detection in Texas and New Mexico, enhanced interstate movement requirements for warm-blooded animals, including equine, livestock and companion animals, are being put in place for animals entering Alabama from the infested states.
These measures are designed to protect animal health, strengthen biosecurity and safeguard Alabama agriculture. If you suspect an animal may have NWS, please call the State Veterinarian’s Office at 334-240-7253 or email [email protected].

Almost threw in the towel today- for real!
FB kept messing up and it was going haywire. And my posts that I worked on said they weren’t going to be saved and my log in. Thought someone hacked me. And I was going to pull the 🏳️ white flag.
Sounds a bit ridiculous maybe; but I’ve spent 4 years building our farm page and I honestly don’t think I have it in me if I had to do it again….
Anyone else have some FB issues?

When you own a business; business is always on your mind.
When you own a farm; farming is always on your heart.
And this past weekend we spent time checking out, supporting, and learning from others just like us in the Pacific Northwest.
From Raw Milk to fun settings- Steele and I took notes and discussed plans on what we could bring back to Bare Bottom Farms- unfortunately it won’t be the mountain (even though we both agree Alabama could use one.)

Back in my stomping grounds this weekend.
We gathered to honor my grandfather’s legacy. Among the many hats he wore, farmer was one of them.
The Pacific Northwest gave us its usual gray skies, but for a few brief moments, Mount Rainier stepped out from behind the clouds.
I’d like to think Grandpa had something to do with it.
