I'll be voting to re-elect Kristine Sauter for Appleton School Board on April 7th. She's one of the hardest-working board members and has proven she cares about students, parents, and educators. She really listens and consistently seeks out feedback from community members. She's the only teacher on the board, and I believe that's a crucial perspective. She has proven worthy of our support. Let's show our appreciation for Kristine Sauter on April 7th!

Educators play a foundational role in shaping strong, thriving communities.

In that spirit, the City of Appleton recently issued an official proclamation honoring the dedication and impact of our teachers. Corey Otis, President of Appleton Education Association, accepted the recognition on behalf of all educators.

The proclamation was presented by Mayor Jake Woodford and Special Assistant to the Mayor, Timber Smith, as part of the City’s continued efforts to support and celebrate the work of public educators.

Thank you for all for all you do!

Wisconsin schools see fewer absences, but challenges persist for low-income students 04/24/2025

This piece highlights some of the reasons why truancy citations can disproportionately harm low income students . I was saddened to read that AASD Superintendent Hartjes continues to advocate for the controversial truancy ordinance . It has overshadowied the innovative amazing work AASD staff are doing to tackle the issue of chronic absenteeism head on. This was a missed opportunity to prove Appleton learned from past mistakes with Truancy Court and to lead the way forward. Instead we seem intent upon returning to the past and out of touch with the experts.

Wisconsin schools see fewer absences, but challenges persist for low-income students New state data shows chronic absenteeism rates fell from 19.5 percent in the 2022-23 school year to 17.7 percent in the following school year. However, the rate is much higher for students from low-income families.

Here are 6 ways school administrators can improve teacher morale tomorrow. #teachers #school #Principal 04/22/2025

Teaching is one of the most stressful professions in the country right now. I spoke with a lot of teachers during my campaign and this video aligns pretty closely with some ways to show appreciation that would cost the district nothing. Other ideas included less micromanaging and room for more flexibility and creativity in their teaching approaches, listening to all voices, and a slower approach to implementation of new initiatives or policies. If we want to ensure success for all students we must also set up our educators for success 😊
