It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of a true champion, for the Northeast Wisconsin nordic skiing community. Mark Ernst announced that, "Tonight Deb found her guardian angel and then became one herself. She left this world in peace and with a heart filled with love."

To my wife and I Deborah Ernst will always be known as the "Ski Whisperer." More than once, we would be struggling down the trail and she appear with a word of encouragement, or a free 10 minute technique clinic.

Godspeed Deb, may the trails now all be rated excellent.

If that was the last weekend of snow activities for the year, it was a good one. Whether it was skiing or fat biking lots of Wheel and Sprocket teammates were out enjoying the sunny warm conditions.

We want to give a big shout out to all the nordic racers heading up to Hayward this weekend for the Birkie. What a difference a week makes. Last Saturday it was -25 in Cable, this Saturday, barely below freezing. Make sure you have your high temp HF ready to go.

For those staying home, The Reforestation Camp will be hosting their first fat bike race. This race is all on two track, so get yourself registered and enjoy.

Reforestation Camp Trail report 2/11/16- We got out about 2:00 to find the best conditions of the season so far. The deck was firm and fast, with just enough cord to give your ski a grab on the kick. Somehow the debris has cleaned itself up. Not sure where it went, but there was much less hazards in the snow than this weekend. It was a good thing too, because when we got there I realized I had left my poles at the shop. 10.5 miles without poles is quite the workout.

Still lots of winter left, and with the predicted la nina winter next year, now would be the time to pick up your first set of skis, or upgrade the ones you have while all skis 30% off.

What a great weekend to be out enjoying, and seeing other people out enjoying a fantastic February weekend. From Fat bike races Friday night and Saturday, to nordic skiers up in Hayward racing the Pre-Birkie, to the hundreds of people out enjoying Reforestation Camp in Green Bay, the sun was shining off of lots of smiles.

Here is my report from the weekend. I have to admit that it was hard for me to keep smiling at the Fat Bully Fat Bike race in Iola. Conditions were brutal, and I had to keep remembering rule #5 as I pushed my bike bike up the hills, and coasted till I crashed on the downhills. I give a huge amount of credit to anybody that even finished the 2 hour race. Saturday we skied at the camp. Great coverage, and fast snow. We got there late in the afternoon, and with so many people out enjoying the trails they were showing a bit of wear and tear. Sunday we got out earlier and enjoyed near perfect conditions until the 43 degree sunshine started to slow down the snow.

Yesterday we skied at reforestation camp. It's hard to believe that it took until the first week of February, but we finally have great coverage on all of the trails. We found the snow to be soft and a bit slow on the first lap, but was setting up nicely by late morning on our second lap.

The official grooming report from the crew is: Grooming was completed this morning. Skates lanes were groomed and are flat and have nice cord. Tracks were set on Oaks, Pines and Birches Weds. evening and they set up well. Trails do have some debris from high winds and heavy snow.
