Have you noticed any these along the roadside?
June is Invasive Species Action Month! Whether you’re hiking, camping, on the water or tending to your home garden, educate yourself and take action to help prevent the spread of invasive species.
One common invasive plant that’s in-bloom this time of year is dame’s rocket (Hesperis matronalis). This slender 3-4' plant with four pinkish-purple (or white) petals spreads quickly in forests, along roads and in natural areas. It is sometimes found in “wildflower mixes” and is a restricted invasive species in Wisconsin, which means it is unlawful to transport, transfer or introduce it on the landscape.

WEDNESDAY 9 AM - 11 AM
The ground is tilled, seeds and plants are in, now we need folks to help with watering the garden. We are hoping for two volunteers who live near the garden to water 1-2 times a month, as part of a watering schedule, if mother nature doesn’t provide the rain. We would like two volunteers to work together to water the plants. Everyone is welcome to participate in garden work days on Wednesday’s from 9-11am. This collaboration of MG’s, volunteers from St Joseph Food Pantry, and community volunteers are making this possible. Many hands make light work. The produce grown will go directly to St Joseph Food Pantry for distribution to fight hunger in our surrounding communities.
The entrance to the garden is off JJ, east of the Kwik Trip. Gravel driveway around the garden area

Until your kids and grandkids return . . . Safe travels!
Many of Wisconsin’s monarchs have already begun their 2,000-mile migration south, where they will overwinter in tight clusters on the branches of fir trees.
In addition to monarchs, several other Wisconsin species of butterflies fly south for the winter, including the painted lady, American lady and red admiral.
While this long-distance flight is impressive for such delicate creatures, the majority of Wisconsin’s 150 species of butterflies spend their winter here. Some eggs overwinter on the stems of plants, and others spend the winter in their larval or pupal stage underground or in leaf litter. The mourning cloak butterfly even hibernates in their adult stage under bark or in crevices of trees.
Leaving your leaves and keeping your yard free from pesticides and herbicides is the best thing you can do to help butterflies and other pollinators year-round.
