Does this thing still work? Decided to dust off the old blog to write about something odd I've noticed about the 2019 Packers. I'm a little rusty so this is data heavy and pretty long.

While we Packers fans have made arguments like this for years, it's interesting that the "McCarthy is ruining Rodgers" narrative is more mainstream than ever. This really might be the beginning of his end.

Interesting stuff about the success rates of Rodgers and Hundley in 2017 on various routes. I can see why they still believe in Hundley. He has showed promise throwing down the field.

Thanks to Deadspin you can see every hit that's been flagged due to the new helmet rule for yourself. I looked at all 49 and marked down 13 that I would have flagged.

Three other observations:

1. Watch out for the Titans!! They've been flagged 5 times - the most in the league.
2. It might be due to the talent level in preseason, but there is some horrendous tackling technique in these clips
3. Without a new excessive rule like the one currently in place, the NFL would become much safer if they just focused on doing away with the Danny Trevathan-style "finishing off" spears that defensive players do to ballcarriers that are already engaged with another defender. Most of the hits here I "flagged" were those instances.

This will be interesting to watch. Judging by the comments of Bennett Jackson, a Ravens safety who was flagged for a helmet foul, even the players seem to think that this will be like 2014's Illegal Contact emphasis: it will get called a lot in the preseason to set the tone, then it will largely go away once the real games start. Time will tell I guess.

Well I appreciate James Jones enthusiasm (and homerism), this is ridiculous. I mean Aaron is great, but even with him, the Packers have only won more than 12 games twice in his career.
