The Wisconsin Conservation Congress Spring Hearings are happening statewide in every county:

This is your opportunity to speak up on key conservation issues that directly impact Wisconsin’s public lands—and help shape recommendations to the Natural Resources Board and state legislature.

Some topics up for discussion include:
• Adjusting license fees (hunting, fishing, trapping) to reflect inflation and support conservation efforts
• Exploring alternative funding for conservation (sales tax, general revenue, access fees)
• Reauthorization of the Knowles Nelson Stewardship Program

RAISE YOUR VOICE FOR WISCONSIN STATE PARKS

The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program for many years has provided grant funding to protect our State’s lakes, streams and critical wildlife habitat. Your Friends group rely on these grants to channel funds in to major park sustainability improvements.

Last week the WI Assembly passed a Knowles-Nelson funding bill through 2028. It now moves on to the WI Senate and then to Governor Evers for signature. This sounds good but read on. Most likely he will veto it because it underfunds the program at $13.25M versus the required $33M. Plus there is little to no funding for land acquisition.

WE NEED YOU TO HELP US TELL OUR LEGISLATORS TO RETHINK THE FUNDING LEVEL

Here is a quick link to find your local legislator, send an email and tell him or her to push for adequate funding through the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program. Let’s work to protect our State’s natural resources.
