Heavy metals don’t belong in your eggs—or your feed.

A recent peer-reviewed study published in Poultry Science raised urgent concerns for the backyard poultry industry:

- Imported dried Black Soldier Fly larvae (BSFL), especially those sourced from China, contained 25 times more lead and 8 times more arsenic than U.S.-grown counterparts.

- Many imported products lacked proper labeling or failed to meet basic U.S. nutrient guarantees.

- These heavy metals— which accumulate in the eggs of backyard hens—pose real risks to both flock and human health.

This is a powerful reminder:
