Today was an inevitable day. A tough, but necessary day. I loaded up all the hogs and dropped them off at the meat processing facility. As a farmer, I care deeply for the animals I steward and spend day after day with. As a human, I enjoy the flavor and nutrition of quality meat. Today is the day that stands in that tension. It's a difficult tension but it is good. As we farmers and humans participate more intimately in the process of food production, we can embrace the tension that comes from living in an earth ecosystem.

Native persimmons are a pig favorite this time of year.

Even though it's not a big mast year for the white oaks here, it's still nice for the pigs to munch on a few acorns.

It's wild how the food we eat can derive its nutrition from trees to pigs to us. All in the benefits of forest raised pork.
