Old West Hwy is closed westbound between Wi******er Rd and Idaho Rd due to a pedestrian vs vehicle collision. The pedestrian has been transported to the hospital with injuries.

Suspect Arrested Following Stabbing Near Meridian Road and Apache Trail

On Friday, June 5, Apache Junction Police officers responded to a report of a stabbing near Meridian Road and Apache Trail. The incident occurred on the west side of Meridian Road, which is within an unincorporated county island area and is typically handled by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Officers contacted the victim, who reported being stabbed in the face by an acquaintance. The victim crossed the street to seek help, and responding officers obtained a description of the suspect.

AJPD officers quickly located and detained the suspect at a nearby business before transferring the investigation to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, which assumed primary responsibility for the case.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, was arrested and booked into jail on aggravated assault-related charges.

Residents may occasionally see incidents reported with an Apache Junction address that are actually located within county island areas. In those locations, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office serves as the primary law enforcement agency, while AJPD and MCSO continue to work closely together to ensure public safety throughout the community.

The eastbound on ramp at Ironwood Dr is currently closed due to a vehicle collision on US 60 between Ironwood Dr and Idaho Rd.

S. Phelps Dr. is currently closed between 5th Ave. and Sierra Vista Dr. due to a single-vehicle collision.

The driver was transported to a local hospital. Motorists should avoid the area and use Apache Trail or Broadway Ave. as alternate routes.

It has been one year since Officer Gabriel Facio was shot in the line of duty in Apache Junction. While it's been a tough year for the department and his family, AJPD says his memory is making them stronger.

🐾K9 Tessa’s Nose Leads to Major Drug Seizure

K9 Tessa’s alert during a traffic stop in Apache Junction helped detectives uncover a larger narcotics operation and seize significant quantities of illegal drugs.

After Tessa alerted to the presence of narcotics inside a vehicle near Broadway and Meridian, detectives expanded the investigation to a residence in Mesa, where a search warrant resulted in the seizure of additional drugs.

Items seized:
✔️ 5.89 pounds of methamphetamine
✔️ 2.16 pounds of fentanyl powder
✔️ 1.80 ounces of he**in
✔️ 4,290 fentanyl M30 pills
✔️ $2,110 in U.S. currency
✔️ 1 vehicle

Tessa’s alert helped detectives uncover a larger drug operation supplying narcotics to Apache Junction and remove thousands of dangerous doses from our community.

This is just one example of the incredible work K9 Tessa is doing across the Valley, helping law enforcement agencies identify narcotics, support investigations, and keep communities safe.
