Just published my newest resource for pharmacy students — *Before You Walk In: The IPPE Prep Guide.*

After a decade of precepting, I can tell you that the students who struggle on rotation rarely struggle because of their clinical knowledge. They struggle because nobody told them what preceptors are actually evaluating from minute one.

This guide covers all nine domains preceptors use to assess you, what we notice in the first ten minutes, how to handle not knowing something, setting-specific tips for community and institutional rotations, and the things we never forget — in both directions.

It's the conversation I wish someone had with me before my first rotation. And it's the one I now get to have with every student who downloads it.

Domain 1 of the Rotation Ready series is live — Foundational Knowledge.
Across more than 1,200 preceptor observations I’ve documented over 10 years, foundational knowledge generates more feedback than any other domain. Nearly 1 in 5 concerns trace back to what students know, what they’ve forgotten, or what never fully stuck.
In this video I break down the 8 specific categories where these gaps show up — from drug nomenclature and dosing to pharmacokinetics and antimicrobial knowledge — and share a real precepting story that shows exactly why this domain matters so much.
If you’re a pharmacy student preparing for rotations, this is the foundation everything else builds on.
Watch it on YouTube and subscribe — Domains 2 through 9 are coming.

After 10 years as a pharmacy preceptor, I’ve documented over 1,200 observations about what makes pharmacy students succeed — and struggle — on rotations.
I finally organized all of it into a structured curriculum: 9 domains that define every pharmacy rotation experience, from foundational knowledge to critical thinking to professionalism and beyond.
I just launched Rotation Ready — a YouTube series breaking down exactly what preceptors are looking for, backed by real data instead of generic advice.
If you’re a pharmacy student preparing for IPPE or APPE rotations, or you’re already on rotation and want to sharpen your approach, I think you’ll find this useful.
Check it out on YouTube and subscribe — new videos dropping regularly as we work through all 9 domains.
